El día empezó lluvioso y fresco en Buenos Aires, ideal para preparar la comida de Acción de Gracias, que como en Navidad es excelente para climas fríos pero para los 30 grados que tuvimos en los últimos días no es tan recomendable. Sin embargo con 22 y aire acondicionado 😉 no lo pasamos tan mal 🙂

The day started out rainy and cool in Buenos Aires, ideal for preparing the Thanksgiving meal, which as at Christmas is excellent for cold weather but for the 30 degrees (86) we had in the last days is not so advisable. However with 22 (71.6) and air conditioning 😉 we didn’t have such a bad time 🙂

A la tarde como dejó de llover, salí a caminar por el barrio y me encontré con una inesperada sorpresa: que la Embajada de Australia está a unas pocas cuadras de mi casa. Es probable que esa información hubiese estado en mi inconciente, pero está vez tuvo más sentido debido a que conocimos a varios Australianos en un viaje que hicimos por Vietnam y Camboya el año pasado con los que continuamos la relación. Me doy cuenta que son las personas las que le dan nuevos sentidos a los lugares por donde estamos.

El edificio donde está emplazada es hermoso.Tiene una placa de la visita de Einstein en Buenos Aires en 1925 http://cms.iafe.uba.ar/gangui/difusion/aaaa/la-residencia-de-einstein-en-argentina_aaaa-2005.pdf (cuando el edificio no era aún la embajada) y además cuenta con pinturas de cuatro artistas australianos @mrstevecross, @lucylucyone, @ellestreetart, @r_o_n_e

Esto le da más color y belleza al lugar y por supuesto me hizo sonreir pensando en mis amigos : Ilona, Alan, Sandie, Brian, Leeanne, Dave, Peree y Glenda 🙂

In the afternoon as it stopped raining, I went for a walk in the neighborhood and found an unexpected surprise: that the Australian Embassy is a few blocks from my house. It is likely that this information had been in my unconscious, but this time it made more sense because we met several Australians on a trip we made in Vietnam and Cambodia last year with whom we continued the relationship. I realize that it is the people that give new meaning to the places we are in.

Continué mi caminata y encontré la Embajada de Alemania con unos murales muy coloridos, la de Ucrania con fotos y festejos de sus 30 años de independencia y la de Noruega con sus paredes blancas y grises sin ninguna decoración, quizás en poco tiempo nos sorprendan con algún tipo de arte 😉

I continued my walk and found the German Embassy with some very colorful murals, the Ukrainian Embassy with photos and celebrations of its 30 years of independence and the Norwegian Embassy with its white and gray walls without any decoration, maybe in a short time they will surprise us with some kind of art 😉

Una de las cosas divertidas de ser un matrimonio argento-americano (palabra totalmente inventada 🙂 ) es que festejamos todas las fiestas de acá y allá. Y desde hace varios años venimos haciendo el ritual de Acción de gracias junto con mis hijas, y la verdad es que lo pasamos muy bien. Compramos la pavita, los ingredientes particulares para la preparación y la mención especial es para Barnaby que nos cocina riquísimo y hace adaptaciones de platos típicos como la tarta de calabaza (es un postre) que a nosotras no nos gusta por tarta de limón. Probablemente no nos guste por falta de adaptación de paladar 🙂 ; de cualquier forma lo mejor es celebrar la vida y agradecer.

One of the fun things about being an Argentinian-American couple is that we celebrate all the holidays here and there. And for several years we have been doing the Thanksgiving ritual together with my daughters, and the truth is that we have a great time. We buy the turkey, the particular ingredients for the preparation and the special mention goes to Barnaby who cooks us delicious and makes adaptations of typical dishes such as pumpkin pie that we don’t like for lemon pie. We probably don’t like it because of lack of palate adaptation 🙂 Anyway, the best thing to do is to celebrate life and be thankful.
