Hace unos meses debido a los Panda Projects varias personas me comentaron y enviaron fotos de un mural enorme que apareció en el barrio de Villa del Parque con pandas como protagonistas. 

A few months ago due to the Panda Projects several people commented and sent me photos of a huge mural that appeared in the neighborhood of Villa del Parque with pandas as stars. 

Unas semanas atrás me di una vuelta para ver con mis propios ojos este mural de 35 metros de altura por 25 metros de ancho  que está en el edificio de departamentos ubicado en Nazca 2725. Mientras  me sacaba unas fotos se me cruzó la idea de contactar a su artista Alfredo Segatori sin tener idea clara de para qué y obviamente con una duda: ¿Responderá a mi mensaje si le escribo?. Lo agregué a Instagram y le envié un mensaje contándole, con un poco de pudor, sobre el Panda Project,  y que tenía ganas de saber más sobre ese mural donde uno de los Pandas está con su mate y su termo, algo muy argentino, muy rioplatense.

A few weeks ago I drove to see with my own eyes this mural of 35 meters high by 25 meters wide that is in the apartment building located in Nazca 2725. While I was taking some pictures, I had the idea of contacting its artist Alfredo Segatori without having a clear idea of what for and obviously with a doubt: Will he answer my message if I write to him? I added him to Instagram and sent him a message telling him, with a bit of embarrassment, about the Panda Project, and that I wanted to know more about that mural where one of the Pandas is with his mate (a hot drink) something very Argentinean, very rioplatense.

Mi sorpresa fue que un día después él también me agregaba a su IG y respondía a mi mensaje curioso por lo de lo que yo hacía con los pandas, con un estilo relajado, divertido y totalmente descontracturado. Ahí hice lo que quizás debería haber hecho antes: conocer un poco más sobre el artista detrás de los pandas y para mi sorpresa me encontré con que varias calles de Buenos Aires tienen su impronta.

My surprise was that a day later he also added me to his IG and responded to my message curious about what I was doing with the pandas, with a relaxed, fun and totally relaxed style. So I did what perhaps I should have done before: learn a little more about the artist behind the pandas and to my surprise I found that several streets of Buenos Aires have his stamp.

Una de ellas es la enorme jirafa “Mirando Miranda en otra pared de un edificio de departamentos en el barrio de Monte Castro sobre la calle Miranda 4765 de casi 50 metros de altura.

Este proyecto junto con Panda Pandemial pertenecen a un trabajo en conjunto con la constructora Nocito, con quienes viene trabajando El Pelado en esta serie de animales, algo que realmente alegra la vista mientras estas andando por la calle.

One of them is the huge giraffe «Mirando Miranda» on another wall of an apartment building in the Monte Castro neighborhood on 4765 Miranda Street, almost 50 meters high.

This project along with Panda Pandemial belong to a joint work with the construction company Nocito, with whom El Pelado (the way that the artist is known) has been working on this series of animals, something that really brighten up your eyes while you are walking down the street.

Lo que sigue a continuación son las palabras de Alfredo y algunas respuestas a mis preguntas cuando nos encontramos el lunes 17 de enero frente al mural para sacarnos unas fotos y donde muy gentilmente aceptó ser parte de esta nueva etapa de Amigas y Amigos Artistas que viene con pandas y nuevo formato 😉

The following are Alfredo’s words and some answers to my questions when we met on Monday, January 17th in front of the mural to take some pictures and where he very kindly accepted to be part of this renew Artistic Friends that comes with pandas and a new format 😉

Alfredo se está yendo a fin de enero para el DF Mexicano invitado en el marco de la feria BADA MÉXICO @bada_mexico donde presentará su “Exabrupto de Color” serie que comenzó en el año en 2018 en Buenos Aires, sobre grandes estructuras, pintando nada más y nada menos que una limousine para Charly Garcia para uno de sus cumpleaños. Y también pintando La Mano en Punta del Este, el Puerto de Mar del Plata y de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires

Alfredo is leaving at the end of January for the Mexican DF invited to the fair BADA MEXICO @bada_mexico in which he will present his «Exabrupto de Color» series that began in the year in 2018 in Buenos Aires, on large structures, painting nothing more and nothing less than a limousine for Charly Garcia (an iconic Argentine rock star) for one of his birthdays. And also painted The hand in Punta del Este, the Port of Mar del Plata and the City of Buenos Aires.

Me cuenta que una de las cosas que más disfruta de esta serie es que puede experimentar libremente con colores y con lo que surja en cada momento, no como lo figurativo donde hay otro tipo de preparación por los dibujos y manera de encarar el trabajo.

He tells me that one of the things he enjoys most about this series is that he can experiment freely with colors and with whatever comes up at any given moment, not like the figurative where there is another type of preparation for the drawings and the way of approaching the work.

Le pregunté sobre sus comienzos en el mundo del arte y esto se remonta a 1996 con “Vómito publicitario” una intervención de una pared hecha con pintura y chatarra en una época en la que el street art, al menos por esta parte del mundo, no era tan conocido.

Me cuenta además que su mamá era pintora y que está casado con la artista Paula Pons @paula_pons (a quien sin ánimo de espoilear me gustaría tenerla en este espacio contándonos su experiencia) y que su hijo Theo lo acompaña en los pasos como muralista. Familia de artistas 🙂

I asked him about his beginnings in the art world and this goes back to 1996 with «Vómito publicitario» a wall intervention made with paint and scrap metal at a time when street art, at least in this part of the world, was not so well known.

He also tells me that his mother was a painter and that he is married to the artist Paula Pons @paula_pons (whom I would like to have in this space telling us about her experience) and that his son Theo follows his father’s footsteps as a muralist. Family of artists 🙂

Hay otra pared, que estoy segura que viste frente al Hipódromo de Palermo y es  el mural “Por una cabeza” que fue realizado en 2012 y cuando se lo nombro me dice que necesitaría ser repintado y ahi mismo envía un mensaje de voz a uno de sus contactos para activar esa posible restauración. Todo esto va pasando en una conversación divertida, como si nos conociéramos desde siempre porque siento que ese es el estilo del Pelado, saber que es un groso pero sin creérsela y siempre en la búsqueda de nuevas sinergias, como él expresa.

There is another wall, which I am sure you saw in front of the Palermo Hippodrome and it is the mural «Por una cabeza» that was made in 2012 and when I mention it to him he tells me that it needs to be repainted and right there he sends a voice message to one of his contacts to activate the possible restoration. All this happens in a funny conversation, as if we had always known each other because I feel that this is Alfredo’s style, knowing that he is a great artist but not feeling like a superstar and always looking for new synergies, as he says.

El mural “El Regreso de Quinquela” ubicado en el barrio de Barracas, fue noticia a nivel mundial por haber superado los metros cuadrados del mural más grande del mundo pintado por una sola persona. Te advertí que es un gran artista 😉

The mural «The Return of Quinquela» located in the neighborhood of Barracas, made world news for having surpassed the square meters of the world’s largest mural painted by a single person. I warned you he is a great artist 😉

En La Boca realizó un mural dedicado a Diego Maradona titulado “San Diego del Barrio de La Boca” y ante la pregunta de cómo surgió me comentó que la idea estaba pero que se precipitó al enterarse de la muerte del 10 el 25 de noviembre de 2020 . Ese día salió a buscar su grúa y empezó a pintarlo a modo de homenaje.

In La Boca he made a mural dedicated to Diego Maradona entitled «San Diego del Barrio de La Boca» and when asked how it came about, he told me that the idea was there but that it was precipitated when he learned of the death of the 10 on November 25, 2020. That day he went out to get his crane and began to paint it as a tribute.

Hace un tiempo también hizo un mural para la Embajada de Alemania, justo en la esquina de Gorostiaga y Villanueva, con motivo al aniversario de la caída del Muro de Berlín, donde parece que los caballos tuvieran vida.

Some time ago he also did a mural for the German Embassy, right on the corner of Gorostiaga and Villanueva, on the occasion of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, where it seems that the horses were alive.

Y también su arte está en distintas locaciones, como “El Viejo del Desarmadero Trash”, en dónde allí trabajó con su técnica de murales 3D con elementos reciclados, al igual que “El Gauchito Gil” en el frente de la Cooperativa de recicladores Urbanos El Ceibo RSU, en dónde tiene su atelier.

His art is also in different locations, such as «El Viejo del Desarmadero Trash», where he worked with his technique of 3D murals with recycled elements, as well as «El Gauchito Gil» in front of the Cooperative of Urban Recyclers El Ceibo RSU, where he has his atelier.

Para el regreso de México en febrero está preparando nuevos proyectos a nivel personal, como la segunda etapa del mural Homenaje a Quinquela, esta véz pintando todas las columnas del bajo autopista y paredes perimetrales. Este trabajo será junto a la fundación que preside, Fundación Cultural Andén 2222 @anden_2222, con Lunática Artes Visuales @lunaticaartesvisuales, y la inauguración será en abril en el Paseo de Las Artes @paseodelasartes,  ambos en el Barrio de La Boca y la Universidad del Arte Urbano. 

For his return from Mexico in February, he is preparing new projects on a personal level, such as the second stage of the mural Homage to Quinquela, this time painting all the columns of the lower highway and perimeter walls. This work will be done together with the foundation he presides, Fundación Cultural Andén 2222 @anden_2222, with Lunática Artes Visuales @lunaticaartesvisuales, and the inauguration will be in April at Paseo de Las Artes @paseodelasartes, both in the neighborhood of La Boca and the Universidad del Arte Urbano.

Agradezco muchísimo la generosidad del Pelado, este gran artista argentino que me abrió las puertas a su historia y su trabajo.
