A Maca Gonzalez Cazon la conocí de una manera  bastante particular ya que primero comencé a leer la newsletter Observando que escribe Axel Marazzi quien en una de las ediciones comentó sobre Parsimonia la newsletter justamente de su novia Macarena 😉

En Parsimonia encontré no solo recomendaciones sobre libros ilustrados, sus autores y referencias bibliográficas, sino también una sensibilidad especial para  transmitir lo que ella ve y quiere compartir con su audiencia y esto invita a continuar explorando el mundo de la ilustración, como de otras cuestiones artísticas. Y cuando Maca de a poco se fue animando a mostrar sus propios trabajos quedé maravillada 😍

I met Maca Gonzalez Cazon in a very particular way since I first started reading the newsletter Observando written by Axel Marazzi, who in one of the editions commented on Parsimonia, the newsletter of his girlfriend Macarena 😉

In Parsimonia I found not only recommendations about illustrated books, their authors and bibliographic references, but also a special sensitivity to transmit what she sees and wants to share with her audience and this invites to continue exploring the world of illustration, as well as other artistic issues. And when Maca little by little was encouraged to show her own work, I was amazed 😍.

Nuestro contacto empezó vía mail, yo al principio tenía dudas si se podían contestar las newsletters y descubrí que sí y que además los autores agradecen esa comunicación. Fue así que cuando supe que venía a Buenos Aires quise conocerla personalmente e invitarla al proyecto de Amigas y Amigos Artistas porque me gusta lo que hace y quiero que más gente la conozca. Nos encontramos en un cafecito en Palermo a tomar la merienda, esas cosas lindas que pasan en Buenos Aires 🙂

Our contact began by e-mail, at the beginning I had doubts if it was possible to answer the newsletters and I discovered that yes, and also that the authors appreciate this communication. So when I went to Buenos Aires I wanted to meet her personally and invite her to the Artistic Friends´s project because I like what she does and I want more people to know her. We met in a little cafe in Palermo for a «merienda» (kind of snack) , those nice things that happen in Buenos Aires 🙂

Maca es de San Vicente, una ciudad en la provincia de Misiones, y estudió Diseño de Comunicación Visual en la Universidad Nacional del Litoral en Santa Fe. Justo antes de la pandemia, hace dos años, se mudó a Buenos Aires. Mientras que no podía salir de su casa, empezó a dibujar y compartirlo con su amiga Lucia Perez, ilustradora fantástica a quien conoció en una pasantía en la municipalidad de Santa Fe. Su proyecto Parsimonia cumplió un año en agosto del año pasado y en los últimos meses, además de compartir las ilustraciones de libros, lecturas, y arte en general comenzó a mostrar, para alegría de sus seguidores, su propio trabajo.

Maca is from San Vicente, a city in the province of Misiones, and studied Visual Communication Design at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Santa Fe. Just before the pandemic, two years ago, she moved to Buenos Aires. While she couldn’t leave her house, she started drawing and sharing it with her friend Lucia Perez, a fantastic illustrator whom she met during an internship at the municipality of Santa Fe. Her project Parsimonia turned one year old last August and in recent months, in addition to sharing illustrations of books, readings, and art in general, she began to show, to the joy of her followers, her own work.

Algunas de sus ilustraciones podés encontrarlas en un proyecto en conjunto con Imprenta Minúscula, un emprendimiento de cuadernos. Una de las cosas que me contó cuando charlamos en el café, es que el logo de Parsimonia sale de su Ex Libris. Los Ex Libris son pequeños sellos, una marca de propiedad que se suele colocar en las primeras páginas de un libro y contienen el nombre del dueño (o dueños) de los ejemplares y alguna imagen. Y si bien las primeras marcas de propiedad de libros o documentos se remontan al reinado de Amenophis III en Egipto en el período 1391−1353 a.C., en su forma moderna se encontraron de manera frecuente en la Edad Media empleando escudos heráldicos o imágenes de contenido alegórico o simbólico. Recordemos que en ese momento cada libro costaba muchísimo dinero y cada ex libris debía ser tallado a mano. Hoy en día es mucho más barato tener libros pero tener una pequeña marca que identifique aquellos ejemplares que arman nuestras bibliotecas es un gesto curioso e interesante.

Some of her illustrations can be found in a collaborative project with Imprenta Minúscula, a notebook company. One of the things she told me when we chatted over coffee is that the Parsimonia logo comes from her Ex Libris. Ex Libris are small stamps, a mark of ownership that is usually placed on the first pages of a book and contain the name of the owner (or owners) of the copies and an image. And although the first marks of ownership of books or documents date back to the reign of Amenophis III in Egypt in the period 1391-1353 BC, in their modern form they were frequently found in the Middle Ages using heraldic coats of arms or images of allegorical or symbolic content. Let us remember that at that time each book cost a lot of money and each ex libris had to be carved by hand. Nowadays it is much cheaper to have books but having a small mark that identifies those copies that make up our libraries is a curious and interesting gesture.
