Conocí a Vero @veronica.arquilevich_guzman en los Portland Open Studios 2022 cuando fui a visitar su estudio. La conexión fue inmediata. Supongo que por tener como idioma común el español; aunque muchas de las palabras que usamos sean tan diferentes y nos saquen risas 🙂 . Digamos que eso fue de gran ayuda, pero lo más importante fue la buena vibra y comunicación que se dio entre nosotras y ni que hablar de su arte del que me había enamorado por fotos y pude comprobar su belleza en persona. Fue por todo eso que la invité a participar de Amigas Artistas y estoy muy agradecida que haya aceptado la invitación 🙂

A continuación sus palabras para presentarse.

I met Vero @veronica.arquilevich_guzman at Portland Open Studios 2022 when I went to visit her studio. The connection was immediate. I guess because we have Spanish as our common language; even though many of the words we use are so different and make us laugh 🙂 . Let’s say that was a great help, but the most important thing was the good vibe and communication between us and not to mention her art that I had fallen in love with through photos and I could see its beauty in person. That’s why I invited her to participate in Artistic Friends and I’m very grateful that she accepted the invitation 🙂

Here are her words to introduce herself.

Mi nombre es Verónica Arquilevich Guzmán. Soy artista y hago cerámica y pinturas.

Creé Maya @mayaceramicspaintings hace unos años cuando vivía en Kuala Lumpur, Malasia. Ese hermoso lugar me dio la inspiración para crear una serie de piezas de cerámica que se inspiraron en la naturaleza y el entorno en el que estaba viviendo.

My name is Veronica Arquilevich Guzman. I am an artist – I do ceramics and paintings.

I created Maya @mayaceramicspaintings a few years ago when I was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That beautiful place gave me the inspiration to create a series of ceramic pieces that were inspired by the nature and the surroundings that I was living amongst.

Ahora, después de mudarme por Asia y recoger más inspiración en la India, Vietnam y China, vivo en la hermosa Portland, Oregon. Sigo teniendo a mi alrededor lo que más me gusta: la naturaleza, y puedo trabajar en lo que más me gusta: mi arte.

Y después de montar mi estudio en casa, puedo seguir creando estos hermosos elementos de la naturaleza y la cerámica.

Mis piezas hablan de mí, de haber crecido acampando y recogiendo hongos con mi padre y de haber aprendido a amar y respetar la naturaleza en todos los sentidos.

Mis cerámicas son diseños hechos a mano que son naturalmente imperfectos, casualmente irreverentes y juguetonamente encantadores. Ninguno de los objetos que puedes encontrar aquí es igual porque fueron hechos a mano individualmente.

Now after moving around Asia and collecting more inspiration in India, Vietnam, and China, I live in beautiful Portland, Oregon. I still have around me what I love most: nature, and I can work in what I like most: my art.

And after setting up my studio at home, I can keep creating these beautiful elements of nature and ceramics.

My pieces speak about me, about growing up camping and collecting mushrooms with my dad and learning to love and respect nature in all senses.

My ceramics are hand-made designs that are naturally imperfect, casually irreverent and playfully delightful. None of the objects you can find here are alike because they were individually hand-crafted.

Allí verás piezas de cerámicas únicas, en las que usé primero rueda y luego fui alterando las piezas; transformándolos en animales o piezas inspiradas en la naturaleza. Fuego bajo/ con veladuras brillantes y gama media también. En las fotos a continuación verás una serie de animales Espirituales inspirados en Alebrijes (esculturas de México) que usan como inspiración armadillos, zorros y otros animales.

at Alberta Street Gallery @albertastreetgallery with Carson Abbert through November 22nd.

You will see one of a kind ceramic pieces, using wheel first then alter the pieces; transforming them into animals or nature inspired pieces. Low fired/ with bright glazes and middle range too. In pictures below you will see a series of Spiritual animals inspired on Alebrijes (sculptures from Mexico) armadillos, fox, and other animals use as inspiration.

Mis piezas se basan en el realismo mágico o mejor conocido como «realismo mágico» mezclando el arte fantástico y la transfiguración del sueño que integra los caminos de lo irreal y lo fantástico.

My pieces are based on magical realism or better known as «magical realism» mixing fantastic art and the transfiguration of the dream that integrates the paths of the unreal and the fantastic.

Esta exhibición es de cómo la raza humana sabe que su existencia es efímera, es consciente de su temporalidad.

No podemos dar contenido a la vida sin considerar la muerte.

This exhibition is about how the human race knows that its existence is ephemeral, it is aware of its temporality.

We cannot give understand the essence of life without considering death.
