When I heard that the Clark County Open Studios would be back this year https://www.facebook.com/artstra.org/ I wanted to interview some of the artists who will be participating in this show that will be held on November 5 and 6 from 10 to 5.
During those two days the artists will open the doors of their studios so that the public can see both their works and their work spaces.
Cuando supe que este año volverían a realizarse los Clark County Open Studios https://www.facebook.com/artstra.org/ sentí ganas de entrevistar a algunos de los artistas que participarán en esta muestra que se realizará el 5 y 6 de Noviembre de 10 a 5.
Durante esos dos días los artistas abrirán las puertas de sus estudios para que el público pueda conocer tanto sus obras como sus espacios de trabajo.
I am particularly interested in this event because I live in Clark County and find it important to support artists in my community.
Me interesa este evento particularmente porque vivo en Clark County y me parece importante apoyar a los artistas de mi comunidad.
When I looked at who the participants would be what struck me about the work of Christopher Mooney @christopherbmoone is that he made, among other things, a lot of work related to Portland’s bridges.
I contacted him because the bridges were the main characters of a letter exchange I made between friends around the world, as a symbol of communication between people, so I felt I needed to see those paintings live 🙂 To my surprise, Christopher paints much more than bridges 😉
Cuando miré quienes serían los participantes lo que me llamó la atención de la obra de Christopher Mooney @christopherbmoone es que realizó, entre otras cosas, muchos trabajos relacionados con los puentes de Portland.
Me comuniqué con él porque los puentes fueron los protagonistas de un intercambio de cartas que realicé entre amigos del mundo, como símbolo de la comunicación entre las personas, así que sentí que necesitaba ver esos cuadros en vivo 🙂 Para mi sorpresa, Christopher pinta mucho más que puentes 😉
I contacted Christopher and he very kindly invited me to visit him in his studio. We chatted and I had the opportunity to see several of his oil paintings that at first glance look like photographs because of the amount of detail they have.
I’m going to leave you with Christopher’s words to tell you about his journey through the art world. I am so grateful that he welcomed me into his workspace before Clark Open Studios.
Me puse en contacto con Christopher y él muy amablemente me invitó a visitarlo a su estudio. Estuvimos conversando y tuve la oportunidad de ver varios de sus cuadros pintados al óleo que a primera vista parecen fotografías por la cantidad de detalles que tienen.

Art is something that I do, and feel. When I work on a painting, I am concerned with human needs and human emotions. I enjoy hiking around the city of Portland, Oregon, with my
camera and stepping off the sidewalks to get a different perspective of the many bridges framing the urban landscape. I am fascinated by the way in which the geometric shapes of the
bridges’ steel girders frame the landscape of the city. People cross bridges every day, yet many
may not realize how little we celebrate the wonderful achievements of their engineering. The bridges of Portland connect communities, unite the city, and improve commerce. The photos I
take are references for me to create original oils.
El arte es algo que hago y siento. Cuando trabajo en un cuadro, me preocupan las necesidades y las emociones humanas. Me gusta pasear por la ciudad de Portland, Oregon, con mi cámara y salir de las veredas para obtener una perspectiva diferente de los numerosos puentes que enmarcan el paisaje urbano. Me fascina el modo en que las formas geométricas de las

My work has recently moved from painting urban landscapes into the world of portraiture.
Studying the human form, I have been drawn to investigate cognitive and developmental psychology, psychoanalysis, human ethology and evolution.
This is a huge change, and I enjoy it greatly. It allows me to deal directly with the emotional undercurrents that flicker across the faces I paint.
Mi trabajo ha pasado recientemente de pintar paisajes urbanos al mundo del retrato.
El estudio de la forma humana me ha llevado a investigar la psicología cognitiva y del desarrollo, el psicoanálisis, la etología humana y la evolución.
Esto es un gran cambio, y lo disfruto mucho. Me permite tratar directamente con las corrientes emocionales que destellan en los rostros que pinto.
To better accomplish this, I intend, while continuing individual portraiture, to expand my subjects to include couples or groups of people doing the simple things that people do together
every day; laughing, singing, pausing for a cup of coffee, snuggling and cuddling a bit. These are the things we do which are a comfort to us in a time of such widespread uneasiness.
Para conseguirlo mejor, me propongo, sin dejar de hacer retratos individuales, ampliar mis temas para incluir a parejas o grupos de personas que hacen las cosas sencillas que la gente hace junta todos los días; reír, cantar, hacer una pausa para tomar un café, acurrucarse y abrazarse un poco. I was thrilled to be able to participate in the art jams events, the plein air trips, to the various hydroelectric power houses and paper mills in Clackamas County. Organized be the Willamette
Falls Foundation, The Estacada Area Arts Commission, and Portland General Electric. This was an experience of personal significance to me, a turning point perhaps, as it put me in an
industrial environment in close contact with an environment that is still in use, closed, or abandoned, enabling me to document buildings and structures that are often unrecognized and forgotten. These art jams were a lot of fun. Charles Sheeler, Edward Hopper, and Charles Demuth were painting just these kinds of subjects during the Works Projects Administration
(WPA) years in the 1930s, but many artists today do not have the opportunity or permission to
work at industrial sites.
Me encantó poder participar en los eventos artísticos con recorridos al aire libre, por las distintas centrales hidroeléctricas y fábricas de papel del condado de Clackamas. Organizado por la Willamette Falls Foundation, The Estacada Area Arts Commission y Portland General Electric. Esta experiencia tuvo un significado personal para mí, un punto de inflexión quizás, ya que me puso en un entorno industrial en estrecho contacto con un entorno todavía en uso, cerrado o abandonado, permitiéndome documentar edificios y estructuras que a menudo pasan desapercibidos y son olvidados. Estos encuentros artísticos fueron muy divertidos. I was the selected grant recipient in 2014 from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) to
fund Tributes: Portraits of Working Heroes of the new Tilikum Crossing, the Milwaukie Light Rail Bridge. The funding for the project made it possible for me to create a visual artistic record of the process to build Tilikum Crossing. As I said before the photos that I took hiking around the city are used are references for me to create original oil paintings. I achieved the project’s objective through
a series of portraits that illustrated teams of workers bringing the wonder of the cable-stayed bridge now spanning the Willamette River to life.
Fui el beneficiario de la subvención seleccionada en 2014 por el Consejo Regional de las Artes y la Cultura (RACC) para la financiación de Homenajes: Retratos de héroes trabajadores del nuevo cruce de Tilikum, el puente del tren rápido de Milwaukie. La financiación del proyecto me permitió crear un registro artístico visual del proceso de construcción del Tilikum Crossing. Como dije anteriormente las fotos que tomo en mis recorridas por la ciudad son las que utilizo como referencia para crear los óleos originales. Para conseguir el objetivo del proyecto realicé una serie de retratos que ilustraban a los equipos de trabajadores dando vida a la maravilla que es el puente colgante que ahora atraviesa el río Willamette.
