No podría decirte con certeza si este año el invierno tiene problemas para despedirse o si la primavera retrasa su aparición como si fuera una diva. Hay algunos indicios primaverales tales como más horas de luz y algunos días con sol en los cuales la temperatura es un poquito más alta. Aunque la mayor evidencia de que estamos en primavera la tenemos al ver las plantas con nuevos brotes y mucho más color. Las flores rosadas de los cerezos son uno de los ejemplos.

I couldn’t tell you for sure if winter is having trouble saying goodbye this year or if spring is delaying its appearance like a diva. There are some springtime signs such as more daylight hours and some sunny days when the temperature is a little warmer. But the biggest evidence that it is spring is when we see the plants with new buds and much more color. The cherry trees’ pink blossoms are one of the examples.

El sábado pasado entusiasmada porque vi algo de celeste cortando el monocromático gris del cielo, me abrigué y fui hasta Steamboat Landing Park en Washougal a unos diez minutos de mi casa.

Al llegar, el celeste comenzó a desaparecer. De cualquier manera comencé a caminar y sólo vi a algunos hombres con sus sillas y cañas de pescar a la orilla del río Columbia. Unos valientes sentados esperando que algún pez pique con tanto viento, con una probabilidad de lluvia inminente y luego con un granizo inesperado que también me sorprendió.

Last Saturday, excited to see some light blue cutting through the monochromatic gray of the sky, I got warm and drove to Steamboat Landing Park in Washougal, about ten minutes from my home.

As I arrived, the blue began to disappear. I started walking anyway and saw only a few men with their chairs and fishing rods on the banks of the Columbia River. Some brave ones sitting around waiting for a fish to catch with so much wind, with a chance of rain imminent and then with unexpected hail that also surprised me.

Si hay algo que disfruto plenamente son los cielos y los washingtonianos son algo especial: las mezclas de colores, nubes que me hacen pensar en coloridas batallas por decidir si llueve o habrá sol. Y muchas veces pasa que por no ponerse de acuerdo ambas cosas ocurren en el mismo tiempo 🙂

If there is something I fully enjoy are the skies and the Washington skies are something special: the mix of colors, clouds that make me think of colorful battles to decide whether it will rain or it will be sunny. And it often happens that both things take place at the same time because they don’t agree 🙂

Y otras veces cuando llegan a algún misterioso arreglo nos regalan estos alucinantes arcoiris.

And other times when they come to some mysterious arrangement they give us these amazing rainbows.

Steamboat Landing tiene un sendero que bordea el río Columbia y es un lugar ideal para realizar largas caminatas o andar en bicicleta. Esta vez como las condiciones climáticas no me acompañaron caminé muy poco pero ya te contaré un poco más en otro artículos.

Hay una gran cantidad de aves en esta zona. Es bastante común ver nidos de águilas pescadoras en los postes de luz, el vuelo de alguna que otra águila calva (que es fácil de distinguir por su modo de volar) y en esta época del año se pueden ver gran cantidad de gansos canadienses que cruzan el cielo de manera muy ruidosa. De a poco voy aprendiendo un poco más sobre la fauna del lugar.

Steamboat Landing has a trail along the Columbia River and is an ideal place for long walks or biking. This time as the weather conditions were not good I walked very little but I will tell you more about it in another article.

There are a large number of birds in this area. It is quite common to see osprey nests on the lamp posts, the flight of the occasional bald eagle (which is easy to distinguish by the way it flies) and at this time of the year you can see lots of Canada geese crossing the sky in a very noisy way. Little by little I am learning a little more about the local fauna.
