Si te presentara a Pepe Moscoso @pepemoscosoart diciendo simplemente que es un artista plástico sería insuficiente, porque Pepe es un creador polifacético que siempre está en la búsqueda de cosas nuevas. El es fotógrafo, pintor, conductor de radio, storyteller y además el dueño y curador de la Galería Blind Insect @blindinsect ubicada en 2841 NE Alberta St en Portland.

If I introduced you to Pepe Moscoso @pepemoscosoart by simply saying that he is a visual artist it would be insufficient, because Pepe is a multifaceted creative who is always on the lookout for new things. He is a photographer, painter, radio host, storyteller and also the owner and curator of Blind Insect Gallery @blindinsect located at 2841 NE Alberta St in Portland.

Tuve la alegría de conocerlo durante los Portland Open Studios @pdxopenstudios en octubre de 2021, gracias a la recomendación de la talentosa artista Jennifer Foran @jennifer_foran. Ella insistió en que debía visitar Blind Insect para conocer a Pepe y poder ver su obra y la de otros artistas emergentes.

I had the joy of meeting him during Portland Open Studios @pdxopenstudios in October 2021, thanks to the recommendation of talented artist Jennifer Foran @jennifer_foran. She insisted that I should visit Blind Insect to meet Pepe and get to see his work and the work of other emerging artists.

Creo que fueron varios factores los que me deslumbraron al llegar a Alberta y 29th St en Portland: un lugar pequeño si lo miras desde afuera pero inmenso al ingresar y ver la variedad de artistas que ocupan cada rincón con sus obras. De cualquier manera fue la presencia de Pepe con su sonrisa, su buena vibra y sus ganas de contar sobre de qué iba la galería  lo que realmente captaron mi atención. Supongo que nuestra conexión fluyó de manera más natural porque ambos compartimos el idioma español, él porque es Mexicano y yo Argentina.

I think there were several reasons that impressed me when I arrived at Alberta and 29th St in Portland: a small place if you look at it from the outside but immense when you enter and see the variety of artists that occupy every corner with their works. Anyway, it was Pepe’s presence with his smile, his good vibes and his willingness to tell me what the gallery was all about that really caught my attention. I guess our connection flowed more naturally because we both share the Spanish language, he because he is Mexican and I am Argentinean.

Sobre la obra de Pepe creo que lo interesante es la mixtura de fotos que fueron tomadas en diversos lugares de Estados Unidos como Colorado, Washington, Wyoming, Idaho, California Utha, Oregon y también Canadá a las que les agregó dibujos a modo de collage interpuestos de manera digital y análoga junto con historias que en muchos casos están relacionadas con cuentos de la infancia, memorias y sueños del pasado dando como resultado una obra completa desde lo visual y emocional.

About Pepe’s work I think the interesting thing is the mixture of photos that were taken in different places in the United States such as Colorado, Washington, Wyoming, Idaho, California Utah, Oregon and also Canada to which he added collage drawings interposed digitally and analogically along with stories that in many cases are related to childhood stories, memories and dreams of the past resulting in a complete work from the visual and emotional.

Cuando le comenté a Pepe sobre mi interés por escribir sobre artistas y le mostré mi trabajo, me dijo que no veía mi voz en los mismos y eso hizo que cambiara la perspectiva en mi manera de encararlos, algo de lo que siempre estaré agradecida. Pepe cuenta con una visión excepcional o un súper poder, como a él le gusta decir, donde puede ver el talento de los demás junto con una capacidad innata para captar la atención de su audiencia; es alguien que no pasa inadvertido.

When I told Pepe about my interest in writing about artists and showed him my work, he told me that he didn’t see my voice in them and that changed the perspective in my approach to them, something I will always be grateful for. Pepe has an exceptional vision or super power, as he likes to say, where he can see the talent of others along with an innate ability to capture the attention of his audience; he is someone who does not go unnoticed.

Durante el 2022 y 2023 visité varias veces Blind Insect . Es que Pepe con su constante espíritu innovador siempre logra despertar el interés de quienes desean explorar su espacio. En su galería, siempre se encuentra algo creativo y atractivo. Un ejemplo de esto son los eventos denominados ‘Barrios‘, en los que Pepe elige un país y nos presenta su música, bailes, gastronomía y arte, brindándonos una experiencia cultural única.

During 2022 and 2023 I visited Blind Insect several times. Pepe with his constant innovative spirit always manages to awaken the interest of those who want to explore his space. In his gallery, you will always find something creative and attractive. An example of this are the events called ‘Barrios’, in which Pepe chooses a country and presents its music, dances, gastronomy and art, giving us a unique cultural experience.
