VIAJES CRONICAS ARTE

A partir de una serie de sincronías tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Marian https://www.instagram.com/el.mar.ian/ y a Gabi https://www.instagram.com/lobadeagua/ de Pogo Producciones https://www.instagram.com/pogo.producciones/ ; una dupla dedicada a la gestión y producción de arte público y murales.

Through a series of synchronicities I had the opportunity to meet Marian https://www.instagram.com/el.mar.ian/ and Gabi https://www.instagram.com/lobadeagua/ from Pogo Producciones https://www.instagram.com/pogo.producciones/ ; a duo dedicated to the management and production of public art and murals.

Me gusta retroceder en el tiempo y ver cómo ciertos acontecimientos, aparentemente no relacionados, forman parte de un enorme rompecabezas que crece y me da la oportunidad de conocer a personas que admiro. Y eso fue lo que ocurrió con la gente de POGO Producciones a quienes les agradezco que me hayan abierto las puertas de su trabajo y de su corazón 🙂

I like to go back in time and see how certain events, apparently unrelated, are part of a huge puzzle that grows and gives me the opportunity to meet people I admire. And that’s what happened with the people of POGO Producciones whom I thank for opening the doors of their work and their hearts to me 🙂

En el 2022 mientras manejaba por la Avenida Jorge Newbery, entre Guzmán y Añasco, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, me sorprendieron los murales que le daban vida a los paredones del Cementerio de la Chacarita. Esas paredes que tenían un toque tétrico se habían transformado en un espacio colorido donde algunos de los personajes del espectáculo argentino que allí descansan, como Carlos Gardel, Gilda, Tita Merello, María Elena Walsh estaban allí representados. Soy fan de los murales así que esa iniciativa me pareció simplemente maravillosa. 

In 2022, while driving along Jorge Newbery Avenue, between Guzmán and Añasco, in the City of Buenos Aires, I was surprised by the murals that brought life to the walls of the Chacarita Cemetery. Those walls that had a creepy touch had been transformed into a colorful space where some of the characters of the Argentine show business who rest there, such as Carlos Gardel, Gilda, Tita Merello, María Elena Walsh were represented. I am a fan of murals so I found that project simply wonderful.

En diciembre de 2023 visité la Fundación Clorindo Testa https://www.instagram.com/fundacionclorindotesta/ y decidí escribir una Crónica Porteña (+) sobre este artista y arquitecto que ha generado tantas polémicas por el estilo de sus creaciones.

Fue una gran sorpresa recibir materiales de la Fundación y descubrir que Mariano Antedomenico https://www.instagram.com/el.mar.ian/ fue quien pintó el mural homenaje por los 100 años de Clorindo en una de las paredes del Cementerio de la Chacarita.

Tomé este acontecimiento como una señal  🙂 como la oportunidad perfecta para conocer a las personas que están llevando a cabo un trabajo enorme de puesta en valor y transformación de una zona de la ciudad que no se destacaba por su belleza.

In December 2023 I visited the Clorindo Testa Foundation https://www.instagram.com/fundacionclorindotesta/ and decided to write a Crónica Porteña (+) about this artist and architect who has generated so much controversy due to the style of his creations.

It was a great surprise to receive materials from the Foundation and to discover that Mariano Antedomenico https://www.instagram.com/el.mar.ian/ was the one who painted the mural tribute for Clorindo’s 100th anniversary on one of the walls of the Chacarita Cemetery.

I took this event as a sign 🙂 as the perfect opportunity to meet the people who are working hard to enhance and transform an area of the city that was not known for its beauty.

Me comuniqué con Gabi y acordamos encontrarnos en la Avenida Jorge Newbery frente a los murales en los que estaban trabajando. Siento que se aprecia mejor el trabajo de las y los artistas cuando tengo la oportunidad de verlos en acción.

Al llegar me encontré, por un lado a una cuadrilla de trabajadores talando los árboles que habían caído unas semanas antes debido a una enorme tormenta en la ciudad, y por el otro a Marian dándole los toques finales a algunos murales. Todos lidiando con el calor, la humedad y la abundancia de mosquitos.

«El trabajo de los muralistas es comparable al de los obreros», me dijo Gabi apenas nos encontramos, y la verdad es que tenía sentido. Ser artista en la calle va de la mano con el clima y sus caprichos, sumado a cualquier acontecimiento inesperado que pudiese ocurrir.

I contacted Gabi and we agreed to meet on Jorge Newbery Avenue in front of the murals they were working on. I feel that the work of the artists is best appreciated when I have the opportunity to see them in action

When I arrived I found, on one side a crew of workers cutting down trees that had fallen a few weeks earlier due to a huge storm in the city, and on the other Marian putting the finishing touches on some murals. All dealing with the heat, humidity and abundance of mosquitoes.

«The work of muralists is comparable to that of the workers», Gabi told me as soon as we met, and the truth is that it made sense. Being an artist in the street goes hand in hand with the weather and «its moods», added to any unexpected event that might happen.

El proyecto de los murales de Chacarita fue ideado e impulsado por lxs vecinxs de la Comuna 15 https://www.instagram.com/bacomuna15/ para revitalizar la zona. En el 2020 Gabi y Marian, desde su bunker durante la pandemia, comenzaron a gestar el proyecto para pintar los 1400 metros lineales que componen los paredones del cementerio. Pensando además quiénes serían los artistas que los acompañarían en ese enorme trabajo.

El proyecto tuvo la aprobación del Gobierno de la Ciudad y especialmente el apoyo y aceptación de las y los vecinos quienes dicen que «fue una victoria para el movimiento artístico»

The Chacarita murals project was conceived and promoted by the neighbors of Comuna 15 https://www.instagram.com/bacomuna15/ to revitalize the area. In 2020 Gabi and Marian, from their bunker during the pandemic, began to develop the project to paint the 1400 linear meters that make up the walls of the cemetery. They were also thinking about who would be the artists who would accompany them in this huge work.

The project had the approval of the City Government and especially the support and acceptance of the neighbors who say that «it was a victory for the artistic movement».

Para el proyecto de Chacarita fueron convocados varios muralistas que participaron simultáneamente en los talleres y pintadas durante el 2021 y 2022 y 2023 en el Barrio Mugica en Retiro.

Las experiencias de dos artistas fueron las que particularmente me llamaron la atención.

Una fue la Santiago Spirito (Cabaio) https://www.instagram.com/cabaiospirito/ quien tiene una amplia trayectoria en la creación de murales; participante también en el Barrio Mugica; y en Chacarita, tuvo su primera experiencia trabajando en un mural de gran tamaño.

La otra es la de Valeria Calvo https://www.instagram.com/val.calvo/ una artista plástica que por primera vez incursionó en el mundo de los murales.

El trabajo de ambos es destacable.

For the Chacarita project, several muralists were invited to participate simultaneously in the workshops and painting during 2021, 2022 and 2023 in the Mugica neighborhood in Retiro.

It was the experiences of two artists that particularly caught my attention.

One was Santiago Spirito (Cabaio) https://www.instagram.com/cabaiospirito/ who has a wide background in the creation of murals; he also participated in Barrio Mugica; and in Chacarita, he had his first experience working on a very large mural.

The other is the experience of Valeria Calvo https://www.instagram.com/val.calvo/ a plastic artist who for the first time ventured into the world of murals.

The work of both is remarkable.

La historia que Gabi compartió conmigo sobre el Barrio Mugica (uno de los más vulnerables de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires) me pareció maravillosa y me llenó de emoción. Allí armaron un programa de murales identitarios al que denominaron el #festi en redes y que contó con cuatro ediciones. Además impartieron tres módulos de capacitaciones sobre murales brindando oportunidades de aprendizaje tanto a lxs vecinxs como a aquellos interesados en participar desde distintas partes de la ciudad. Y esto tuvo como resultado la creación de varios murales que embellecieron y llenaron de color el barrio.

Para estos proyectos fueron invitados muchísimos artistas al barrio que trabajaron durante 3 años en este proyecto encargado por el Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

The story that Gabi shared with me about Barrio Mugica (one of the most vulnerable neighborhoods in the city of Buenos Aires) was wonderful and filled me with emotion. There they put together a program of identity murals which they called the #festi in redes (networks) and which had four editions.

They also gave three training workshops on murals, providing learning opportunities for both neighbors and those interested in participating from different parts of the city. This resulted in the creation of several murals that embellished and filled the neighborhood with color.

For these projects, many artists were invited to the neighborhood and worked for 3 years in this project of the City Government of Buenos Aires

En abril del 2023 finalizaron el proyecto encomendado por https://www.instagram.com/baintegracion/en el bajo de la Autopista Illia en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Allí pintaron además del puente, una serie de columnas con retratos de diferentes mundos que elegieron destacar del universo del Barrio Mugica. La educación, el paseo comercial con sus feriantes, los trabajadores de cooperativas, la cultura y los motocarros.
Todos estos retratos estuvieron diseñados por @el.mar.ian y pintados por diferentes artistas a lo largo de todo el proyecto.

Debajo de los más de 1,8 km del bajo autopista además del color se puede disfrutar de un gran parque público con diferentes actividades y espacios de uso común. Participaron en el proyecto:

In April 2023 they completed the project commissioned by https://www.instagram.com/baintegracion/ in the underneath of the Illia Highway in the City of Buenos Aires. There, in addition to the bridge, they painted a series of columns with portraits of different worlds that they chose to highlight from the universe of Barrio Mugica. The education, the commercial promenade with its fairgrounds, the cooperative workers, the culture and the motocarts.

All these portraits were designed by @el.mar.ian and painted by different artists throughout the project.

Underneath the more than 1.8 km of the highway underpass, in addition to the color, you can enjoy a large public park with different activities and spaces for common use. The following participated in the project:

Durante el mes de abril del 2023 POGO Producciones trabajó junto al equipo de https://www.instagram.com/abastobarriocultural/en la conformación del corredor biocultural Agüero en el Barrio del Abasto.

En este proyecto hicieron la producción y realización de una intervención artística sobre calzada de 500 metros y 3 murales sobre la misma calle. Los diseños estuvieron a cargo dehttps://www.instagram.com/silvia_dotta/  y https://www.instagram.com/la.calde.ron/  y la coordinación fue de https://www.instagram.com/juan_rraa/

During the month of April 2023 POGO Producciones worked with the https://www.instagram.com/abastobarriocultural/ team in the creation of the Agüero biocultural corridor in the Abasto neighborhood.

In this project they made the production and realization of an artistic intervention on a 500 meters roadway and 3 murals on the same street. The designs were in charge of https://www.instagram.com/silvia_dotta/ and https://www.instagram.com/la.calde.ron/ and the coordination was by https://www.instagram.com/juan_rraa/

Viendo sus trabajos y escuchando sus experiencias algo que me parece destacable es la generosidad para enseñar, compartir y abrir el juego dándole oportunidades a otros artistas.

Gabi me comenta que POGO tiene un compromiso para quienes forman parte de sus equipos y esto va desde la elección de los materiales, el equipamiento que utilizan y hasta las comidas para que cada artista se sienta cuidado en las largas jornadas laborales.

Seeing their work and listening to their experiences, something that stands out to me is their generosity to teach, share and open the game by giving opportunities to other artists.

Gabi tells me that POGO has a commitment to those who are part of their teams and this goes from the choice of materials, the equipment they use and even the meals so that each artist feels cared for during the long working days.

Mariano Antedomenico o El Marian, curador de la obra de POGO, es un reconocido muralista con un gran recorrido artístico. Si caminás por Buenos Aires vas a encontrar mucha de su obra. Por ejemplo los murales pintados de la estación Federico Lacroze de la línea de subte B, uno de los pintados en conmemoración a los 25 años del atentado a la Amia en el Hospital de Clínicas y también varios de uno de sus ídolos: Diego Maradona, uno de ellos en el Club Sportivo Italiano o Messi en el Predio de la AFA.

Su obra es muy valorada y ha pintado en diferentes países como Colombia, España, Alemania y también en Argentina en Rosario, Salta y en Neuquén junto a David Petroni.

Mariano Antedomenico or El Marian, curator of POGO’s work, is a renowned muralist with a great artistic career. If you walk around Buenos Aires you will find a lot of his work. For example the murals painted at Federico Lacroze station of the subway line B, one of those painted in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Amia bombing at the Hospital de Clinicas and also several of one of his idols: Diego Maradona, one of them at the Club Sportivo Italiano or Messi at the AFA.

His work is highly valued and he has painted in different countries such as Colombia, Spain, Germany and also in Argentina in Rosario, Salta and Neuquén with David Petroni.

Muchos de sus murales tienen un contenido social donde se muestran las injusticias, las desigualdades y mirarlos no te dejan indiferente.

Many of his murals have a social content where injustice and inequality are shown, and looking at them does not leave you indifferent.

Estoy muy agradecida por haber tenido la oportunidad de conocer a Marian y Gabi, que me hayan dedicado su tiempo y a través de ellos haber conocido la obra de otros grandes artistas.

I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to meet Marian and Gabi, that they have dedicated their time to me and through them to have known the work of other great artists.
