Un hábito que incorporé y que disfruto muchísimo, aunque según la la dificultad también padezco 😅, es salir a recorrer los senderos, cascadas o montañas que hay en los alrededores de donde vivo.

Elegimos visitar Wind Mountain, una de las montañas situadas en el Cañón del Río Columbia, cerca de Carson, WA. Tiene una altura de 1907 pies (581 metros) y una dificultad moderada para ascender y por este motivo pensamos que era una muy buena opción. Un dato importante: llevá bastones para ayudarte, especialmente en las bajadas 😉

A habit that I incorporated and that I enjoy very much, although depending on the difficulty I also suffer 😅, is to go out to hike the trails, waterfalls or mountains that are in the surroundings of where I live.

We chose to visit Wind Mountain, one of the mountains located in the Columbia River Gorge near Carson, WA. It has an altitude of 1907 feet (581 meters) and a moderate difficulty to climb and for this reason we thought it was a very good option. An important tip: carry poles to help you, especially on the descents 😉

El sendero bordea la montaña y al llegar a la cima las vistas son increíbles: parte de Mount Adams, a lo lejos Beacon Rock, gran parte del río Columbia y las montañas de Oregon al otro lado del río entre otras bellezas.

Allí comprendí el motivo de su nombre, el viento (wind) es tan fuerte que es necesario tener cuidado con tus pertenencias y sin exagerar también con tu persona.

The trail borders the mountain and when you reach the top the views are incredible: part of Mount Adams, Beacon Rock in the distance, much of the Columbia River and the Oregon Mountains on the other side of the river among other beauties.

There I understood the reason for its name, the wind is so strong that it is necessary to be careful with your belongings and without exaggeration also with your person.

Me gustó encontrar durante el trayecto muchísimas flores silvestres, protagonistas durante la primavera que parece que quieren quedarse durante el verano. Los amarillos, naranjas, lilas y blancos contrastaban con las diferentes tonalidades de verde de las plantas y árboles que forman parte de la vegetación de la montaña.

I enjoyed finding many wild flowers along the way, protagonists during the spring that seem to want to stay during the summer. The yellows, oranges, lilacs and whites contrasted with the different shades of green of the plants and trees that are part of the mountain vegetation.

El sendero fue cambiando a lo largo de la caminata. Algunos tramos eran de tierra con ramas o con pequeñas piedras . Otra partes estaban cubiertas de rocas que al atravesarlas sonaban como si estuvieras caminando sobre cerámicas rotas. Por momentos el terreno se hizo más escarpado, en especial al final, donde necesité un poco más de esfuerzo para lograr el objetivo.

The trail changed throughout the hike. Some sections were dirt with branches or small stones. Other parts were covered with rocks that sounded as if you were walking on broken ceramics.

At times the terrain became steeper, especially at the end, where I needed a little more effort to achieve the goal.

Mientras subía la montaña, pensaba en los voluntarios que cada año y en todos los senderos trabajan en la limpieza del camino para que todos los que decidamos recorrerlos tengamos una agradable experiencia.

El sonido de las aves, muy activas en el verano, junto con los diferentes aromas de los árboles y plantas característicos del bosque, fueron otros de los elementos destacados de este paseo.

As I climbed the mountain, I thought about the volunteers who every year and on all the trails work to clean up the trail so that all of us who are going to hike them have a good experience.

The sound of the birds, very active in the summer, along with the different fragrances of the trees and plants characteristic of the forest, were other highlights of this walk.

Un poco antes de llegar a la cumbre, nos encontramos con un cartel que resaltaba la importancia de Wind Mountain por su profunda conexión espiritual, siendo considerado un lugar sagrado por las poblaciones nativas.

A short way before reaching the summit, we came across a sign highlighting the importance of Wind Mountain for its deep spiritual connection, being considered a sacred place by the native populations.

Cuando llegué a la cumbre de alguna manera sentí esa conexión. El viento, las bellezas naturales y hasta el vuelo de unos pelícanos me maravillaron. Me senté sobre las piedras, cerré los ojos y me dejé envolver por un rato por el espíritu de la montaña.

When I reached the summit I somehow felt that connection. The wind, the natural beauties and even the flight of pelicans amazed me. I sat on the rocks, closed my eyes and let myself be absorbed for a while by the spirit of the mountain.
