Hace unos años, caminando por la calle 3 de Febrero al 900 en el barrio de Belgrano, descubrí un local encantador con detalles en madera azul y una amplia vidriera repleta de libros infantiles, muchos dedicados a la música. Con su estética de colores pastel, el amor por los detalles, los muñecos ecológicos hechos a mano, sin plásticos y con telas de algodón y lino y su nombre, Letras y Corcheas https://www.instagram.com/letrasycorcheas/ esta librería logró captar mi atención al instante. Fue sin dudas amor a primera vista 😍

A few years ago, walking along 3 de Febrero Street at 900 in the Belgrano neighborhood, I discovered a charming store with blue wooden details and a large window full of children’s books, many of them dedicated to music. With its pastel color aesthetics, love for details, the handmade, plastic-free, eco-friendly dolls made of cotton and linen fabrics and its name, Letras y Corcheas https://www.instagram.com/letrasycorcheas/, this bookstore caught my attention instantly. It was undoubtedly love at first sight 😍

Entré varias veces, en busca de libros para regalar y quedé admirada por la forma en que están organizadas las estanterías, donde cada libro puede verse de frente, destacando el cuidado en la presentación. Pero eso no es todo, una parte del piso está vidriado y eso permite  entrever un piano en el subsuelo, completando la atmósfera mágica del lugar.

I went in several times to look for books to give as gifts and I was admired by the way the shelves are organized, where each book can be seen from the front, highlighting the care in the presentation. But that’s not all, part of the floor is glazed and that allows a glimpse of a piano in the basement, completing the magical atmosphere of the place.

Al comenzar a escribir sobre librerías independientes, se me ocurrió que Letras y Corcheas tenía que formar parte de este proyecto y hace unos días tuve el privilegio de conversar con su dueña, Patricia Vila, en este rincón único de Belgrano.

Sabía de ella que era música y concertista de piano, además de docente y fundadora de Musicarte XXI, una escuela que acercó a muchos niños a la música durante más de veinte años.

When I started writing about independent bookstores, it came to my mind that Letras y Corcheas had to be part of this project and a few days ago I had the pleasure of talking to its owner, Patricia Vila, in this unique corner of Belgrano.

I knew that she was a musician and concert pianist, as well as a teacher and founder of Musicarte XXI, a school that brought many children closer to music for over twenty years.

Durante nuestra charla, descubrí una faceta fascinante de Patricia Vila. En 2014, tras cerrar el capítulo de Musicarte y concluir una etapa profesional significativa, decidió formarse en ilustración de libros infantiles. Este curso le abrió las puertas a un nuevo mundo: el de la literatura infantil. Como resultado de esta transformación creativa, publicó dos libros dirigidos a los más pequeños: “¿En qué piensan los músicos?” y “Mis pianistas” un libro confeccionado en tela. La música siempre presente en su vida.

En 2018, con el apoyo de su esposo, Letras y Corcheas, abrió sus puertas en Buenos Aires, en el barrio de Belgrano, un lugar donde confluyen todos sus amores.

During our talk, I discovered a fascinating facet of Patricia Vila. In 2014, after closing the chapter of Musicarte and concluding a significant professional stage, she decided to study children’s book illustration. This course opened the doors to a new world for her: that of children’s literature. As a result of this creative transformation, she published two books for children: “What do musicians think about?” and “My pianists”, a book made of cloth. Music has always been present in her life.

In 2018, with the support of her husband, Letras y Corcheas, opened its doors in Buenos Aires, in the neighborhood of Belgrano, a place where all her loves converge.

La curaduría de los libros en Letras y Corcheas es un reflejo de la visión de Patricia, quien selecciona personalmente los títulos. Para ella, cada libro debe aportar algo significativo al lector, priorizando obras que ofrezcan calidad y profundidad en lugar de dejarse llevar por las modas o los éxitos de ventas.

Esta aproximación cuidadosa da a la librería un toque único y esta selección hecha con tanta dedicación convierte a Letras y Corcheas en un espacio de descubrimiento donde siempre es posible encontrar alguna joya.

The curation of the books in Letras y Corcheas is a reflection of Patricia’s vision, who personally selects the titles. For her, each book must bring something meaningful to the reader, prioritizing works that offer quality and depth rather than being driven by trends or bestsellers.

This careful approach gives the bookstore a unique touch and this selection made with such dedication turns Letras y Corcheas into a space of discovery where it is always possible to find some jewel.

Nuestra conversación transcurrió en el subsuelo, junto al piano, en el espacio donde se desarrollan talleres para niños y adultos, y donde Letras y Corcheas celebra el arte en todas sus formas, con música o con charlas culturales.

Our conversation took place in the basement, next to the piano, in the space where children’s and adult workshops take place, and where Letras y Corcheas celebrates art in all its forms, with music or cultural talks.

A fines de 2020, Patricia expandió Letras y Corcheas abriendo un nuevo local en Punta del Este, Uruguay, el cual comparte la calidez y personalidad del original.

In late 2020, Patricia expanded Letras y Corcheas by opening a new location in Punta del Este, Uruguay, which shares the warmth and personality of the original.

La historia de Patricia es de pura inspiración y me recordó que nunca es tarde para redescubrirnos y explorar nuevos caminos.

Patricia además dedica parte de su tiempo a confeccionar los muñecos de tela y las casitas de muñecas que decoran su librería. Y otro detalle que le da valor a su proceso creativo es que disfruta comprando las telas y materiales durante sus viajes, combinando su amor por la exploración con su pasión por el arte y el diseño. Este toque tan personal aporta una autenticidad única a Letras y Corcheas.

Patricia’s story is one of pure inspiration and reminded me that it is never too late to rediscover ourselves and explore new paths.

Patricia also dedicates part of her time to making the fabric puppets and dollhouses that decorate her bookstore. And another detail that adds value to her creative process is that she enjoys buying fabrics and materials during her travels, combining her love for exploration with her passion for art and design. This personal touch brings a uniquely authentic feel to Letras y Corcheas.
