Vancouver, Washington, United States

This stationery store, with its vintage charm, antique furniture and a picture painted by Crystal, better known as Cricket, the owner of Eryngium, offered me a warm and cozy welcome. The artwork, a representation of Frog and Toad, adds a special touch to the ambiance.

When entering Eryngium, Cricket chatted animatedly with some customers who asked her about the jewelry displayed in one of the corners of the store, which was designed and made by her.

Her earrings, necklaces and rings, besides having an unmistakable vintage style, are made with recycled materials, such as earrings decorated with fragments of old books. Each piece has its own story, which she tells with great enthusiasm.

From the first moment, I was curious to know the history of Eryngium, but due to the constant coming and going of customers it was not possible to talk at that moment. With Cricket we arranged an appointment for another day, which was not a problem, as I was convinced that I wanted to come back to discover more about this special place.

Personalized attention is one of the key features of this stationery shop: Cricket offers careful recommendations and listens to each customer with interest. Eryngium Papeterie is undoubtedly a place that invites you to stop by, to explore and rediscover the charm of handcrafted products.

The name Eryngium  is the Greek and Latin botanical term for Cricket’s favorite flower commonly known as “Sea Holly”. And her love of botany is reflected in the papers, notebooks and cards displayed in the shop.

The atmosphere of Eryngium transports you to a world of times past, with an air of nostalgia and charm. However, this stationery store is younger than it looks: September 13, 2024 was its first anniversary, a date that matches Cricket’s birthday.

She proudly shares that opening a stationery store was her life’s dream and this dream fulfilled is perceived in the love and dedication that can be found in every corner of Eryngium.

September 13 Cricket’s and Eryngium’s birthday

Cricket told me that her love of paper and art began when she was 11 years old in Rhode Island. Her dad used to bring home blank-backed paper and those sheets became the place to experiment, create and play. At age 12, tucked into a corner of a Walden Books was the discovery of the Griffin and Sabine series, and from that extraordinary correspondence a creative light took hold.

Cricket has lived in the PNW for over twenty years, and after working in various places related to art and stationery, she was able to fulfill her dream of opening her store with a distinct vintage style and impeccable curation when it comes to selecting her products.

Eryngium is a place where you can breathe magic, good energy and dedicated attention and where you will find endless possibilities if you are a paper lover. I thank Cricket for her time so that we could write this article. If you are in the PNW, I invite you to visit this stationery store supporting independent businesses.
