Crónicas Porteñas 47 – Niño Librería

Hace unos meses el algoritmo de Instagram me mostró las fotos de Niño Librería https://www.instagram.com/niniolibreria/ y lo que vi me llamó la atención: una casona en el barrio de Villa Ortúzar que compartía espacio con un vivero La Casa Vivero https://www.instagram.com/lacasa.vivero/ y un café ¿Puede haber algo más lindo que esa combinación?

Las imágenes, sumadas a los posteos sobre actividades, como su participación en La Noche de las Librerías el sábado 22 de noviembre donde una de las invitadas fue la artista ISOL https://www.instagram.com/isolmisenta/ fueron suficientes para querer ir a conocerla.

A few months ago, Instagram’s algorithm showed me photos of Niño Librería https://www.instagram.com/niniolibreria/, and what I saw caught my attention: a large house in the Villa Ortúzar neighborhood that shared space with a nursery, La Casa Vivero https://www.instagram.com/lacasa.vivero/, and a café. Could there be anything more beautiful than that combination?

The images, along with posts about activities such as their participation in La Noche de las Librerías (Bookstore Night) on Saturday, November 22, where one of the guests was the artist ISOL https://www.instagram.com/isolmisenta/, were enough to make me want to visit the venue.

Y así fue que la semana pasada me di una vuelta por Niño Librería y para mi sorpresa el lugar resultó ser más hermoso que en las fotos.

Me recibió Anton quien me contó que la librería abrió en agosto de 2024 y me mostró libros infantiles muy especiales, muchos de ellos editados por Niño Editor https://www.instagram.com/ninioeditor/, una editorial que recupera obras extranjeras de otras décadas y las traduce al español. Fue ahí donde me crucé con varios títulos de Bruno Munari y no pude resistirme: luego de una difícil decisión compré Toc Toc.

And so it was that last week I took a trip to Niño Librería and, to my surprise, the place turned out to be even more beautiful than in the photos.

I was welcomed by Anton, who told me that the bookstore opened in August 2024 and showed me some very special children’s books, many of them published by Niño Editor https://www.instagram.com/ninioeditor/, a publishing house that recovers foreign titles from previous decades and translates them into Spanish. It was there that I came across several books by Bruno Munari, and I couldn’t resist: after a difficult decision, I bought Toc Toc.

La librería funciona en una antigua casa chorizo, que fue la casa de infancia de los hermanos Ridolfi, con patio y varias habitaciones.

Anton me contó que todo empezó con el vivero y el café llegó casi como una extensión natural del lugar debido al interés de los hermanos por la botánica. Por otro lado había espacio extra y ellos querían sumar algo vinculado a la cultura. Ahí entraron en escena los fundadores de Niño Editor y la idea de abrir una librería no sólo tomó forma sino que la concretaron y el resultado es este espacio «del bien».

The bookshop operates in an antique row house, which was the childhood home of the Ridolfi brothers, with a courtyard and several rooms.

Anton told me that it all started with the nursery, and the café came about almost as a natural extension of the place due to the brothers’ interest in botany. On the other hand, there was extra space, and they wanted to add something related to culture. That’s when the founders of Niño Editor came on the scene, and the idea of opening a bookstore not only took shape but also became a reality, and the result is this wonderful space.

En Niño Librería vas a encontrar, además de los títulos infantiles, libros ilustrados, narrativa, poesía, arte, cine, género y, por supuesto, ejemplares dedicados al mundo de las plantas.

En una de las mesas de exhibición hay una planta de café: un guiño al proyecto que están desarrollando sobre el cultivo urbano de café, otra de las tantas curiosidades que vuelven único a este espacio.

At Niño Librería, in addition to children’s books, you will find illustrated books, fiction, poetry, art, cinema, genre, and, of course, books dedicated to the world of plants.

On one of the display tables there is a coffee plant: a nod to the project they are developing on urban coffee farming, another of the many curiosities that make this space unique.

La alegría me acompañó durante el tiempo que estuve ahí conversando, sacando fotos, hojeando libros y dejando que Pepino, el gato que vive en la casona, viniera a saludarme.

The joy stayed with me during the time I was there chatting, taking photos, looking through books, and letting Pepino, the cat who lives in the house, come and say hello to me.
