Al terminar la segunda temporada de Amigos Artistas me pareció que podría ser divertido realizar un proyecto conjunto con todos los artistas que habían participado. La temática que elegí fueron las Flores. (Tema de mi proyecto fotográfico en Panda Project, enviando postales florales a mis amigos alrededor del mundo.)

A mis Amigos Artistas les propuse que con la técnica que quisieran, representaran las flores y que escribieran acerca de lo que las éstas significan para ellos. El resultado, como verás a continuación, fue increíblemente bello y colorido.

Muchísimas gracias artistas por sumarse a éste proyecto!!! Dedicando su valioso tiempo y haciendo su particular aporte, hicieron de este posteo una hermosa experiencia. Espero que todos disfruten de este artículo tanto como yo.

At the end of the second season of Artistic Friends I thought it might be fun to do a project with all the artists who had participated. The theme I chose was the Flowers. (the topic of my picture project at Panda Project, sending floral postcards to my friends around the world.)

I proposed to my Artistic Friends that with the technique they wanted, they represent the flowers and write about what the flowers mean to them. The result, as you will see below, was incredibly beautiful and colorful.

Thank you very much to the artists for joining this project !!! By dedicating their valuable time and making their particular contribution, they made this post a beautiful experience. I hope you all enjoy this article as much as I do.

Desde hace 10 años decidí vivir en un lugar donde estoy en contacto directo con la naturaleza todos los días. Las flores son parte de mi paisaje cotidiano. En mis obras paradójicamente no abundan las flores pero hay una obra que realicé: retrato de Frida Khalo, donde las flores abundan siendo un retrato particular. Será porque Frida tiene una historia de vida increíble y por la gran artista que fue que sentí la necesidad de acompañar su retrato con flores.

I decided to live in a place where I am in direct contact with nature every day, ten years ago. Flowers are part of my everyday landscape. In my works, paradoxically, flowers are not abundant but there is a work that I did: portrait of Frida Khalo, where flowers abound being a particular portrait. Maybe it`s because Frida had an incredible life story and because of the great artist that she was that I felt the necesity to accompany her portrait with flowers.

This was done with oil pastels, which are very portable and allow me to do on-site sketches or explorations  in color, resulting in a something that looks like oil paint, but without the mess and trouble of carrying around paints, solvents and brushes. This one is just a color sketch of a backyard garden.

Esto fue hecho con pasteles al óleo, que son muy portátiles y me permiten hacer bocetos en el lugar o exploraciones en color, lo que resulta en algo que parece pintura al óleo, pero sin el desorden y la molestia de llevar pinturas, solventes y pinceles. Este es sólo un boceto en color de un jardín en el patio trasero.

Como dijo Eckhart Tolle: «las flores pudieron ser la primera cosa que los seres humanos valoraron sin que representaran un valor utilitario para ellos, es decir, sin que tuvieran una relación con la supervivencia».

No sé por qué la vista se siente atraída por las flores, pero verlas me hace suspender un momento el ajetreo diario, me permito ese impasse de belleza que me recuerda que la vida es algo más que todo lo que hacemos y vivimos en lo cotidiano, y sigo adelante con mejor energía.

As Eckhart Tolle said: «Flowers could be the first thing that human beings valued without representing a utilitarian value for them, that is, without having a relationship with survival.»

I do not know why the eye is attracted to flowers, but seeing them makes me suspend the daily hustle for a moment, I allow myself that pause of beauty that reminds me that life is something more than everything we do and live in everyday life , and I carry on with better energy.

As a photographer, flowers mean an opportunity and a challenge: light, colour, structure, background, progression, demise and perhaps the technical and timing aspects of gaining images, particularly if time to capture the image is limited. However, once photographed, I am letting the meaning in the image be in the eye of the beholder.

And now I shift to real world meaning: flowers in the garden mean happy wife (and therefore happy life) but cut flowers are life cut short.

Como fotógrafo, las flores significan una oportunidad y un desafío: luz, color, estructura, fondo, progresión, desaparición y quizás los aspectos técnicos y de sincronización en la obtención de imágenes, especialmente si el tiempo para capturar la imagen es limitado. Sin embargo, una vez fotografiada, dejo que el significado de la imagen esté en el ojo del espectador.

Y ahora cambio al significado al mundo real: las flores en el jardín significan una esposa feliz (y por lo tanto vida feliz), pero las flores cortadas son vida truncada.

Las flores me inspiran vida y para mi cuentan la historia de la vida. Especialmente la Rosa…

Me gusta el poema «La rosa» de Federico García Lorca donde siento que se describe a la mujer, a la vida y a esta hermosa flor.

Mi inspiración en la obra que presento, es la rosa del Principito. Ella se cree única y diferente a las demás porque es amada, y cuidada .
Una rosa puede vivir y describir el ciclo de vida sólo cuando es amada y otros la ven y admiran.

Flowers inspire life in me and they tell the story of life. Especially the Rose …

I like the poem «La rosa» by Federico García Lorca in which I feel that the woman, life and this beautiful flower are described.

My inspiration in the paint that I chose is the rose of the Little Prince. The rose thinks she is unique and different from the others because she is loved and cared for.
A rose can live and describe the life cycle only when it is loved and others see and admire it.

Siempre que pienso en intervenciones, pienso en flores… porque nos acompañan en la felicidad y nos dan consuelo en la tristeza.

Hace poco le hice a mi sobrina un cuaderno de arte y actividades. Quería que se sienta inspirada en una gran artista como Frida Khalo, y me animé a hacerlo con la técnica que nos mostró Fanny en este espacio de amigos Artistas… participar de esta experiencia nos sirve para animarnos e inspirar a otros. 

Whenever I think of interventions, I think of flowers … because they accompany us in happiness and give us comfort in sadness.

I recently made my niece an art and activities sketchbook . I wanted her to feel inspired by a great artist like Frida Khalo, and encourage me to do it with the technique that Fanny showed us in this space of Artistic Friends … participate in this experience helps us to encourage and inspire others.

Estas son las flores típicas y tradicionales del fileteado.

Lo que me pasa cuando pinto flores es que como son parte de la naturaleza me generan vida amor y felicidad.

No imagino la vida sin flores o música, son vida pura para mi.

What happens to me when I paint flowers is that since they are part of nature, they generate life, love and happiness.

I cannot imagine life without flowers or music, they are pure life for me.

Las flores son para mi, renovación, transformación. Perfectas e imperfectas. 

Completamente distinta una de la otra.

En su conjunto generan un paisaje mágico y místico lleno de colores.

As a whole they generate a magical and mystical landscape full of colors.

I absolutely love flowers. Of course, it’s Autumn in Australia right now, so there aren’t many flowers out at the moment. My garden is a ‘Spring’ garden and is a mass of colour in Springtime. Wisteria, cherry blossoms, plum blossoms,  peach blossoms, azaleas, magnolias, daisies, daffodils,etc, all help to make my garden burst into colour! Our coastal beach house a little further north is my frangipani paradise! In Summer, we have about 20 different varieties of colour and perfume. Sheer heaven!

Me encantan las flores. Por supuesto, es otoño en Australia ahora, por lo que no hay muchas flores en este momento. Mi jardín es un jardín de «primavera» y es una explosión de color en primavera. Glicinas, cerezos en flor, ciruelos, duraznos, azaleas, magnolias, margaritas, narcisos, etc. ¡todas ayudan a que mi jardín estalle en color! ¡Nuestra casa en la playa, un poco más al norte es mi paraíso de frangipani! En verano, tenemos alrededor de 20 variedades diferentes de color y perfume. ¡Cielo puro!

¿Qué son las flores para mí?
La respuesta es sencilla: las flores para mí son inspiración pura. Encuentro flores en mi camino todos los días. En Ecuador tenemos flores todo el año, en las jardineras, en los balcones, en patios, terrazas, macetas, etc. Las hay de todos los tipos, formas, colores y tamaños. Han formado parte de mi vida desde siempre y a pesar de constituir parte de mi cotidianidad, nunca me canso de admirarlas y, con el tiempo, se han convertido en mis musas preferidas.
Constituyen parte sustancial de mi trabajo. Pinto flores porque alegran mi vida y deseo compartir esa alegría con el mundo, a través, de mi pintura.
Amo todas las flores, pero me llaman particularmente la atención todas aquellas flores de plantas silvestres. Sé que son las más comunes y es por esa misma razón que me gustan tanto.
Porque aunque forman parte del paisaje de todos los días, pocas veces nos detenemos a observarlas y maravillarnos con su complejidad y belleza. Me gustan porque me parecen un ejemplo de generosidad y valentía.

What are flowers to me?
The answer is simple: flowers for me are pure inspiration. I find flowers on my way every day. In Ecuador we have flowers all year round, in the planters, on the balconies, in patios, terraces, flowerpots, etc. They come in all types, shapes, colors and sizes. They have
been part of my life forever and despite constituting part of my daily life, I never tire of admiring them and, over time, they have become my favorite muses.
They constitute a substantial part of my work. I paint flowers because they brighten my life and I wish share that joy with the world, through my painting.
I love all flowers, but all those flowers of wild plants. I know they are the most common and it is for that very reason that I like them so much.
Because although they are part of the everyday landscape, we rarely stop to observe them and marvel at their complexity and beauty. I like them because they look like an example of generosity and courage.

This is a stack and whack type of creating a quilt where you choose a fabric that has a repeat and then you layer the fabric eight times. The material is then torn to accommodate the size of the template you will be using for each central block . You then pin the fabric in layers so they are precisely matched through the layers before cutting the pieces out that you need for each block. Each block will come out differently as if by magic. This fabric is mostly butterflies as opposed to flowers but a garden with welcoming flowers will encourage butterflies and bring great pleasure.

There is another stack and whack showing different flower blockis incorporated into a quilt which has an envelope within the back to enable you to fold the quilt into it. It is known as a Quillow. Another way of bringing flowers into the house.

Este es un tipo de apilado para crear una colcha en la que eliges una tela que tiene una repetición y luego la colocas en capas ocho veces. Luego, el material se rasga para adaptarse al tamaño de la plantilla que utilizará para cada bloque central. Luego, fijas la tela en capas para que coincidan con precisión a través de las capas antes de cortar las piezas que necesitas para cada bloque. Cada bloque saldrá de forma diferente como por arte de magia. Esta tela es principalmente de mariposas en lugar de flores, pero un jardín con flores acogedoras alentará a las mariposas y brindará un gran placer.

Hay otra pila que muestra diferentes bloques de flores incorporados en una colcha que tiene un sobre en la parte posterior para permitirle doblar la colcha. Se le conoce como «Quillow». Otra forma de traer flores a la casa.
