I met Pamela Chipman @pamelachipman_fiber_art in October of this year at NW Marine Artwork @nwmarineartworks. I had gone to visit an artist at Portland Open Studios that day and came across a space where artists from different fields have their studios.

Lauren Carrera @artbycarrera was the one who introduced me to Pamela and we chatted about her art and life in general. It filled me with joy when she accepted the invitation to participate in Artistic Friends and it gave me a good feeling when I came across her work at @imogengallery while walking through Astoria 🙂

Conocí a Pamela Chipman @pamelachipman_fiber_art en octubre de este año en el NW Marine Artwork @nwmarineartworks. Ese día había ido a visitar a una artista a los Portland Open Studios y me encontré con un espacio donde artistas de diferentes disciplinas tienen sus estudios.

Lauren Carrera @artbycarrera fue quien me presentó a Pamela con estuvimos conversando sobre su arte y la vida en general. Me llenó de alegría cuando aceptó la invitación a participar de Amigas y Amigos Artistas y me dio una especie de orgullo cuando me encontré con su trabajo en @imogengallery mientras paseaba por Astoria 🙂

I have been working in photography and video production for over 25 years, creating fine art as well as marketing materials for clients. I attended UCLA art school in the 80’s, I moved to Portland, Oregon in the late 80’s and started up the Blue Gallery. 

Currently I work mainly in photography, gilded photos (images printed on vellum and backed with copper and gold leaf) and collage on paper and photograms on fiber. 

He estado trabajando en la fotografía y la producción de video durante más de 25 años, como así también en bellas artes y realizando marketing para clientes. Asistí a la escuela de arte de UCLA en los años 80, me mudé a Portland, Oregon, a finales de los 80 y puse en marcha la Blue Gallery. 

Actualmente trabajo principalmente en fotografía, fotos doradas y collage sobre papel y fotogramas sobre fibra. 

There are so many amazing women photographers and artists that I admire, Diane Arbus comes to mind as an early influence, Sally Mann and Nan Goldin are also more contemporary influences, and of late photography collage artists like Maggie Taylor, and Brooke Shaden.   

Hay muchas mujeres fotógrafas y artistas increíbles a las que admiro, Diane Arbus me viene a la mente como una de las primeras influencias, Sally Mann y Nan Goldin también son influencias más contemporáneas, y últimamente artistas del collage fotográfico como Maggie Taylor y Brooke Shaden.

As a lens based artist I love capturing images digitally and on film then using tools like Photoshop to collage and refine the images, and recently I have started using UV reactive dyes to collage (photograms) on fabric, then use those material to make domestic items like pillows, clothing, and purses. 

Siendo una artista detrás de la lente, me encanta capturar imágenes digitalmente y en video para luego utilizar herramientas como Photoshop con las que realizo collage y mejoro las imágenes. Recientemente he comenzado a utilizar tintes reactivos UV para hacer collage (fotogramas) sobre tela, y luego utilizar ese material para hacer artículos domésticos como almohadones, ropa y bolsos.

I will be part of the NW Marine Art Works Open Studios and Holiday Market on Sunday December 4th,. My studio will be open as well Thursday December 15th from 3-6 as part of an on going Third Thursday Open Studio event at the NW Marine Art Works building.
