Cuando me preguntan en qué parte de Estados Unidos vivo y digo Washington muchas personas (excepto los estadounidenses) creen que hablo de Washington, la capital del país.

Yo también había tenido la misma confusión, pero aprendí en estos años, que la forma en que llaman acá a la capital es DC y Washington es el estado número 42 en el noroeste de la costa del Pacífico. Aclarado este punto me gustaría contarte y mostrarte cómo es la vida en esta parte del mundo. Pensé que así como me gusta escribir sobre los lugares que visito en los viajes, también me gustaría compartir las bellezas del lugar en donde vivo 🙂

When I am asked where in the United States I live and I say Washington, many people (except Americans) think I am talking about Washington, the capital of the country.

I had also had the same confusion, but I learned over the years that the capital is called here DC and Washington is the 42nd state in the Pacific Northwest. With these possible misunderstandings cleared up, I would like to tell you and show you what life is like in this part of the world. I thought that just as I like to write about the places I visit on my travels, I would also like to share the beauties of the place where I live 🙂 .

El estado de Washington se divide en 39 condados, y nuestra casa está ubicada en el sur, específicamente en el condado de Clark. Nuestros vecinos son los condados de Skamania y Cowlitz y además estamos muy cerca del río Columbia, que es el límite entre los estados de Washington y Oregon. Esta cercanía me permite visitar la ciudad de Portland con bastante frecuencia 😉

The state of Washington is divided into 39 counties, and our home is located in the south, specifically in Clark County. Our neighbors are Skamania and Cowlitz counties and we are also very close to the Columbia River, which is the border between the states of Washington and Oregon. This proximity allows me to visit the city of Portland quite often 😉

Hoy para dar comienzo a estas pequeñas crónicas me gustaría contarte sobre uno de los lugares que me mantiene totalmente enamorada desde hace más de seis años: el Lacamas Park.

Es algo maravilloso tener este parque tan cerca de mi casa (técnicamente a cinco minuto de auto). Es increíble para mi, que siempre fui muy urbana vivir tan cerca de la naturaleza.

Al recorrer esos senderos me encuentro siempre con personas que lo utilizan para caminar con sus perros (creo que somos la única familia en los alrededores que no tenemos uno 🐶) gente corriendo, en bicicletas, familias con niños y también artistas que van a pintar o a escribir. Y una característica que me gusta es que la gran mayoría te saluda y sonríe al cruzarte.

Today to start these short chronicles I would like to tell you about one of the places that has kept me totally in love for more than six years: Lacamas Park.

It is a wonderful thing to have this park so close to my house (technically a five minute drive). It’s amazing for me, who has always been very urban, to live so close to nature.

When walking these trails I always meet people who use it to walk with their dogs (I think we are the only family in the surroundings that don’t have one 🐶) people running, on bicycles, families with children and also artists who go to paint or write. And a nice feature I like is that the vast majority greets you and smiles when they cross your path.

El parque es bello y diferente en cada época del año. Y al comenzar la primavera sus arroyos y cataratas están llenas de agua por los deshielos y además poco a poco se van viendo nuevos brotes en las plantas. Todo vuelve a renacer 🌺

The park is beautiful and different in every season of the year. And at the beginning of spring its creeks and waterfalls are full of water from the thaws and also little by little you can see new growth in the plants. Everything is reborn 🌺

Es verdad que es una zona en la que llueve muchísimo y por demasiado tiempo, digamos que más de seis meses en el año 😅 . No es fácil pero te dejo esta pregunta ¿hay manera de que existan estos bosques si no lloviera tanto? 🤔

It is true that it is an area where it rains a lot and for too long, let’s say more than six months of the year 😅. It is not easy but I leave you with this question: is there any way that these forests would exist if it did not rain so much? 🤔

El lago Lacamas es un lugar para aprovechar especialmente durante el verano, allí la gente rema en kayaks o en tablas y hasta algunos valientes nadan (el agua es bastante fría). También podes encontrarte con algunas lanchas o algún jetski que por suerte no son muchos, la mayoría se van al río para usarlos.

En breve te seguiré mostrando un poco más de Washington también conocido como el estado Ever Green, por lo verde, por los bosques y probablemente también por la lluvia que mantiene sus colores 😉

Lacamas Lake is a place to take advantage of especially during the summer, there people paddle kayaks or boards and even some brave people swim (the water is quite cold). You can also find some boats or jetskis, but luckily there are not many of them, most of them go to the river to use them.

Soon I will continue to show you a little more of Washington also known as the Ever Green state, because of the green, the forests and probably also because of the rain that keeps its colors 😉
