VIAJES CRONICAS ARTE

Antes que nada quiero aclarar que este artículo es un poco una excusa para contarte algo sobre la amistad, los cambios inesperados de planes y como algunas sincronicidades nos llevaron a Miami, una de esas ciudades que no figuraba en mi lista de pendientes pero que me sorprendió de una manera muy positiva; probablemente porque está asociada a lo afectivo 🙂

De cualquier manera hacia el final del artículo voy a contarte sobre algunos lugares que me llamaron la atención de esta ciudad 😉

Viajar es una experiencia enriquecedora que me da la oportunidad de conocer gente de diferentes partes del mundo, algo que me resulta sumamente interesante. Y lo verdaderamente mágico es que en ocasiones se crea un vínculo tan especial que perdura incluso después de finalizado el viaje.

Sandie y Brian, una pareja de Australia, son el ejemplo de una amistad que comenzó en Vietnam en el 2020 (justo antes de la pandemia) y que se afianza a medida que pasa el tiempo 🙂

Volvimos a encontrarnos y a viajar juntos por el norte del Europa en julio del 2022. De cualquier manera en los tiempos pandémicos fueron muy activos virtualmente participando en varias ocasiones en Amigas y Amigos Artistas http://viajesaventurasymuchomas.com/2021/09/26/brian-and-sandie-anderson-with-another-artistic-friends/ y http://viajesaventurasymuchomas.com/2021/02/10/brian-anderson/ y también de otros Panda Projects 😉

Sentimos pena al saber que estarían por unos días en Buenos Aires en febrero del 2023 y que no podríamos encontrarnos porque nosotros ya estaríamos de regreso en Estados Unidos para ese entonces 😦

First of all, I want to clarify that this article is an excuse to tell you something about friendship, unexpected changes of plans and how some synchronicities took us to Miami, one of those cities that was not on my bucket list but that surprised me in a very positive way; probably because it is associated with affection 🙂

Anyway, by the end of the article I will tell you about some of the places that caught my attention in this city 😉

Traveling is an enriching experience that gives me the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world, something that I find extremely interesting. And what is truly magical is that sometimes a relationship is created that is so special that it lasts even after the trip is over.

Sandie and Brian, a couple from Australia, exemplify a friendship that began in Vietnam in 2020 (just before the pandemic) and grows stronger as time goes on 🙂

We met again and traveled together in Northern Europe in July 2022. Anyway in the pandemic times they were very active virtually participating in several occasions in Artistic Friends. http://viajesaventurasymuchomas.com/2021/09/26/brian-and-sandie-anderson-with-another-artistic-friends/ and http://viajesaventurasymuchomas.com/2021/02/10/brian-anderson/ and other Panda Projects as well 😉

We were sorry to know that they would be in Buenos Aires for a few days in February 2023 and that we would not be able to meet you because we will be back in the United States by then 😦

Sin embargo cuando regresamos de la Antártida, un pensamiento se nos cruzó por la cabeza: «¿Y si cambiamos los pasajes y nos quedamos unos días más a esperar a nuestros amigos? Coincidimos en que era una gran idea y nos entusiasmamos muchísimo hasta que supimos que a nuestro larguísimo viaje hacia Portland se le agregaría una escala en Miami y con bastante tristeza desistimos del plan.

En el viaje a la Antártida conocimos un grupo de gente maravillosa https://vicroart.com/2023/02/08/antartida-round-1/ y con algunos de ellos pudimos organizar un almuerzo de despedida en Buenos Aires. Allí surgió el tema de nuestros planes fallidos y fue entonces que Omaya, con quien tuvimos una conexión inmediata apenas nos conocimos en Ushuaia, nos comentó que ella y su esposo estarían en Miami en la fecha de nuestra posible escala y nos invitaban a quedarnos con ellos así podíamos extender nuestra estadía y encontrarnos con Sandie y Brian. No tengo manera de explicar la alegría que nos dio esa generosa invitación ❤️

However, when we returned from Antarctica, a thought crossed our minds: «What if we changed our tickets and stayed a few more days to wait for our friends? We agreed that it was a great idea and were very excited until we found out that our very long trip to Portland would be followed by a stopover in Miami and with much sadness we gave up the plan.

On the Antarctica trip we met a group of wonderful people https://vicroart.com/2023/02/08/antartida-round-1/ and with some of them we organized a goodbye lunch in Buenos Aires. There, the topic of our failed plans came up and it was then that Omaya, with whom we had an immediate connection as soon as we met in Ushuaia, told us that she and her husband would be in Miami on the date of our possible stopover and they invited us to stay with them so we could extend our stay and meet Sandie and Brian. I can’t tell you how happy we were with this generous invitation ❤️

Cambiamos los pasajes y ese tiempo extra en Buenos Aires no sólo fue de espera sino que también lo aproveché para pasar más tiempo con gente que quiero muchísimo ❤️

We changed the tickets and that extra time in Buenos Aires was not only to wait but also to spend more time with people I love very much ❤️

Y cuando Sandie y Brian llegaron a Buenos Aires pudimos abrazarnos, charlar, reirnos y pasear por Tigre, Palermo y Recoleta.

And when Sandie and Brian arrived in Buenos Aires we were able to hug, chat, laugh and walk around Tigre, Palermo and Recoleta.

Y lo que en principio fue un inconveniente resultó ser un súper plan porque Omaya y Hossam fueron unos anfitriones de lujo que nos llevaron a conocer varios lugares de Miami, una ciudad llena de vida y de contrastes.

El recorrido comenzó por Calle 8, la pequeña Havanna donde te diría que el español es el idioma oficial 😉

Fuimos a tomar un café a La Colada, uno de los lugares preferidos de nuestros amigos. Quedé maravillada con el aroma, la decoración súper colorida del local, la música pegadiza de Celia Cruz que sonaba en ese momento y la buena onda de quienes allí trabajan. Y por supuesto es necesario mencionar a la verdadera estrella del lugar que es el café 😉 . Me di el gusto de probar la especialidad de la casa: el tres leches compuesto por leche, crema y leche condensada, más que un café un postre muy dulce.

And what at first was an inconvenience turned out to be a great plan because Omaya and Hossam were wonderful hosts who took us to see many places in Miami, a city full of life and contrasts.

The tour started on Calle 8, the little Havanna where I would tell you that Spanish is the official language 😉

We went for a coffee at La Colada, one of our friends’ favorite places. I was amazed with the aroma, the very colorful decoration of the place, the catchy music of Celia Cruz that was playing at the time and the good vibes of those who work there. And of course it is necessary to mention the real star of the place which is the coffee 😉 . I had the chance to try the specialty of the house: the tres leches made of milk, cream and condensed milk, more than a coffee, a very sweet dessert.

Mi lugar preferido de la ciudad fue el barrio de Wynwood donde los enormes murales y mucho arte callejero aparece en cada lugar por donde camines. La parada obligada es en el Street Art Museum https://thewynwoodwalls.com/ donde una gran variedad de artistas de diferentes lugares del mundo exponen a cielo abierto.

My favorite place in the city was the Wynwood neighborhood where huge murals and lots of street art appear everywhere you walk. A must stop is at the Street Art Museum https://thewynwoodwalls.com/ where a wide variety of artists from around the world exhibit under the open sky.

Uno de los artistas que me llamó la atención fue Peter Tunney @petertunney quizás porque usa el collage como medio expresivo que es algo que me fascina. Sus obras tienen mensajes cortos y potentes en letras gigantes pero con una gran cantidad de detalles en donde podrías pasar horas encontrando imágenes o mensajes escondidos. Una invitación a mirar lo que tenemos alrededor de otra manera, como el mismo lo dice «Change the way to see evertything» 😉

One of the artists that caught my attention was Peter Tunney @petertunney perhaps because he uses collage as an expressive medium which is something that fascinates me. His works have short and powerful messages in giant letters but with a lot of details where you could spend hours finding hidden images or messages. An invitation to look at what we have around us in a different way, as he says «Change the way to see evertything» 😉

Y por supuesto no puedo dejar de nombrar Ocean Drive, que supongo habrás visto en cientos de películas o series, con sus noches alocadas, shows, fiestas, autos deportivos o enormes con música estridente y mucho ruido de motor, un lugar donde parece que muchos comparten un mismo mensaje «Estoy acá, mírenme» 🙂 .

And of course I can’t forget to mention Ocean Drive, which I guess you have seen in hundreds of movies or series, with its crazy nights, shows, parties, sports cars or huge cars with loud music and lots of engine sound, a place where it seems that many people share the same message «I’m here, look at me» 🙂

Te diría que Ocean Drive como Miami Beach fueron de las zonas menos favoritas básicamente por el estilo ostentoso con edificios, barcos, autos donde todos quieren mostrar lo ricos que son. Todo es cuestión de gustos y este no es el mío, sin embargo son los lugares icónicos de Miami que tenes que visitar si estás por ahí.

I would say that Ocean Drive and Miami Beach were my least favorite areas basically because of the flamboyant style with buildings, boats, cars where everyone wants to show how rich they are. It’s all a matter of taste and this is not mine, however these are the iconic places in Miami that you have to visit if you are around.

Otro lugar que disfruté muchísimo fue el Frost Science, el museo de ciencia de la ciudad de Miami https://www.frostscience.org/ con muchas salas con diferentes exhibiciones. Mis favoritas el acuario que tiene una gran cantidad de especies y los dinosaurios de los que siempre fui fan, mucho antes de que Jurassic Park apareciera en 1993 🙂

Estaremos siempre agradecidos a Omaya y Hossam por habernos recibido con tanto cariño y habernos mostrado esta loca ciudad. Espero que hayas disfrutado de este corto pero emotivo viaje 😉

Another place I really enjoyed was Frost Science, the science museum of the city of Miami https://www.frostscience.org/ with many rooms with different exhibits. My favorites were the aquarium that has a lot of species and the dinosaurs that I was always a fan of, long before Jurassic Park appeared in 1993 🙂

We will be forever grateful to Omaya and Hossam for welcoming us so warmly and showing us this crazy city. I hope you enjoyed this short but emotional trip 😉
