Camas, Washington, United States

I have two reasons to choose October as one of my favorite months of the year 🙂 . One is related to the fall and the change of the color palette around me; everything is tinged with ochers, yellows, oranges and reds that result in a wonderful visual show. The other reason is the Halloween celebrations, one of my favorite holidays since I live in the United States and that’s what I want to talk about in this article.

My favorite part of Halloween 🎃 is when the girls and boys make their rounds of the houses on October 31st with their signature trick-or-treat. I look forward to that moment when the little ones come knocking at my door looking for their candy. And I wait for them dressed as a witch 🧙‍♀️

However, at least in Camas, there is a previous celebration known as Boo Bash, which takes place on the Wednesday of the week before October 31.

I discovered Boo Bash by chance in 2021, when I went for a coffee in the center of Camas on a rainy afternoon.

There I found the streets closed and a large group of kids in costumes going through the stores looking for candy.

I could not stop smiling because I found the idea very funny and also because it gives me tenderness to see the joy of the kids with their costumes walking the streets and enjoying the celebration.

But not only businesses are involved in the event, but also City of Camas, the police, the library, the fire station and even some of the stalls that make up the farmer’s market.

I wanted to know a little more about this initiative so I sent an email to the Downtown Camas Association https://www.instagram.com/ilovedowntowncamas/ who are in charge of this event, as well as many others in the city.

It was its Director, Carrie Schulstad, who told me that «Boo Bash started in the early 2000’s by the City of Camas to encourage families to come down and enjoy a community event. The DCA took over the organizing in 2009. It has grown from about 50 kids to now over 2000!»

I am very grateful for the speed and kindness with which Carrie Schulstad responded to my request 🙂

It is great fun to see children accompanied by adults and costumed merchants enjoying a day of festivities.

Nothing stops the Boo Bash not even bad weather in 2021 as you will see in the photos below 😉

In 2024 the Boo Bash will be celebrated on October 23, I promise to wear my costume on that day 🙂

  1. Gracias Laura. Me operé ayer de cataratas y apenas veo. Cuando lo pueda revisar te comento. Calculo que antes del 15 no será posible. Cariños para vos y Barnaby. Ricardo
