Buenos Aires en primavera, especialmente en noviembre, tiene un encanto particular. Quizás sea por el tono lila en que se tiñen muchas de sus calles debido al florecimiento de los jacarandás. O tal vez porque los días se alargan, invitándonos a salir y disfrutar de todo lo que esta ciudad tiene para ofrecernos.

Buenos Aires in spring, especially in November, has a particular charm. Perhaps it is because of the lilac tone in which many of its streets are colored due to the blooming of the jacaranda trees. Or maybe because the days get longer, inviting us to go out and enjoy everything this city has to offer.

Comencé a buscar personas y lugares que capturaran la esencia de la ciudad para escribir sobre ellos. Y fiel a sus intereses por el patrimonio de la ciudad, Rox propuso como lugar de encuentro nada menos que el Bar El Colonial https://www.instagram.com/barelcolonial/ uno de los bares notables de la ciudad de Buenos Aires y que ella definió como su segundo hogar 🙂

I started looking for people and places that captured the essence of the city to write about them. Talking with Marga Fabbri * one of my Artist Friends 🙂 https://www.instagram.com/margafabbri/ https://www.instagram.com/mirarmiradores/ she recommended me the work of Rox Gnoa, an Argentine photographer also interested in the historical heritage of Buenos Aires https://www.instagram.com/rox_gnoa/

And loyal to her interest in the city’s heritage, Rox proposed as a meeting place nothing less than the Bar El Colonial https://www.instagram.com/barelcolonial/, one of the most notable bars in the city of Buenos Aires, which she defined as her second home 🙂

Allí tomando un café en una mesa especial que nos reservó Juli su dueña y rodeadas de una atmósfera llena de historia, me encontré con una artista que logra transmitir su sensibilidad a través de sus fotografías. Nuestra conversación se dio de forma tan natural que sentí que la conocía de toda la vida.

There, having a coffee at a special table reserved for us by Juli, the owner, and surrounded by an atmosphere full of history, I met an artist who manages to transmit her sensitivity through her photographs. Our conversation was so natural that I felt I had known her all my life.

Me contó que su interés por la fotografía viene desde hace mucho tiempo, y aunque en los últimos años siente que lo aborda de manera más conciente, no pierde la espontaneidad que pueda surgir en el proceso. La misma calle o el mismo edificio puede ser fotografiado mil veces pero la mirada y la sensibilidad del momento nos dará siempre un resultado distinto.

She told me that her interest in photography goes back a long time, and although in recent years she feels that she approaches it more consciously, she doesn’t lose the spontaneity that may arise in the process. The same street or the same building can be photographed a thousand times but the look and the sensitivity of the moment will always give us a different result.

El objetivo de Rox es provocar emociones con sus fotos. «No importa cuáles » me dijo con mucha seguridad. Lo importante es generar en quienes las miran algo que los conmueva y al observar sus fotos siento que lo logra.

Rox’s goal is to provoke emotions with her photos. «It doesn’t matter which ones,» she told me confidently. The important thing is to generate in those who look at them something that moves them and when I look at her photos I feel that she achieves it.

Desde la cuenta https://www.instagram.com/imagenesenlahistoria/ junto con Laura su coequiper, nos muestran no solamente fotos sino también textos de investigación que nos zambullen en la historia de lo que estamos viendo dándole textura a esas imágenes.

From the IG account https://www.instagram.com/imagenesenlahistoria/ with Laura her teammate, they show us not only photos but also research texts that immerse us in the history of what we are seeing, giving texture to these images.

Me cuenta que siente fascinación por los edificios derruidos o los que ya no están. Frente a esos espacios ella se pregunta: «¿qué pasó alli?» «¿qué hubo antes?» Y ese interés y curiosidad propia la transmite a sus seguidores a quienes nos lleva de recorrida  a través de sus fotos por lugares que a partir de ese momento serán mirados con otros ojos.

She tells me that she is fascinated by demolished buildings or those that are no longer there. In front of those spaces she asks herself: «what happened there?» «what was there before?» And she transmits this interest and her own curiosity to her followers to whom she takes us on a tour through her photos of places that from that moment on will be looked at with different eyes.

Aunque también Rox es especialista en encontrar joyas escondidas como por ejemplo la Iglesia Sagrado Corazón de Jesús ubicada en San Mayol en el Partido de Tres Arroyos, a unos 30 kilómetros de la ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Ahora es el turno de Rox para contarte sobre su proceso creativo.

Now it’s Rox’s time to tell you about her creative process.

Una mirada desde la alcantarilla puede ser una vision del mundo. La rebelión consiste en mirar una rosa hasta pulverizarse los ojos”.

Y esa es mi mirada… buscar lo que no se ve a simple vista, mirar lo sutil en cada objeto, en cada construcción, en cada movimiento, hasta que mi retina se detiene y aparece el clik de la cámara.

And that is my look… to look for what is not seen with the naked eye, to look for the subtle in every object, in every construction, in every movement, until my retina stops and the click of the camera appears.

Mi objetivo o no… es que te detengas un segundo y busques algo que te llame la atención, entonces ahí mi foto será parte tuya.

My goal or not… is for you to stop for a second and look for something that catches your eye, then there my photo will be part of you.

Es transmitirte un sentimiento, un pensar, un recuerdo, llevarte a lo simple de la vida a lo simple de la cotidianidad.

It is to transmit a feeling, a thought, a memory, to take you to the simplicity of life, to the simplicity of everyday life.

Que marquen un antes y un después porque siempre hay otro mundo, hay nuevas experiencias y momentos por vivir desde que la tomamos y la hacemos nuestra y parte tuya.

That they mark a before and after because there is always another world, there are new experiences and moments to live since we take it and make it ours and part of yours.

Es mostrarte lo que no conoces y que descubras algo a partir de esa fotografía.

It is to show you what you don’t know and for you to discover something from that photograph.

Y esa es mi intención… que disfrutes, que te genere curiosidad, que te genere un sentimiento.

And that is my intention… that you enjoy, that it generates curiosity, that it generates a feeling.
