Hace unos meses comencé a seguir por Instagram a la librería Leeme Mucho https://www.instagram.com/leeme.mucho.libreria/ ubicada en Donado 2290 en el barrio de Urquiza (DoHo) en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Una de las cosas que captaron mi atención de la librería fueron los videos que Laura Torres, su dueña, realiza con un estilo descontracturado recomendando lecturas y autores que como ella dice «están más allá de la novedad y de las modas»

A few months ago I started to follow on Instagram the bookstore Leeme Mucho https://www.instagram.com/leeme.mucho.libreria/ located in Donado 2290 in the neighborhood of Urquiza (DoHo) in the city of Buenos Aires.

One of the things that caught my attention in the bookstore were the videos that Laura Torres, its owner, makes with a casual style recommending readings and authors that as she says «are beyond novelty and trends».

Cuando comenzó mi interés por visitar y escribir sobre librerías independientes supe que Leeme Mucho era una cita obligada 😉 .

Me contacté con Laura a través de Instagram y combinamos una entrevista; y fue así que una tarde fría de mayo, me acerqué a este espacio que me pareció mágico.

When my interest in visiting and writing about independent bookstores began, I knew that Leeme Mucho was a must 😉 .

I contacted Laura through Instagram and we arranged an interview; and so it was that one cold afternoon in May, I approached this space that seemed magical to me.

El local está pintado de color verde y cuenta con una vidriera con varios libros expuestos en la misma. Es interesante que haya una silla que supongo es para las personas interesadas en revisar los ejemplares de libros usados, con muy buenos títulos y en muy buen estado, que se encuentran en una mesa ubicada en la vereda. Vale la pena darse una vuelta para darles una mirada.

The store is painted green and has a window with several books displayed in it. It is interesting that there is a chair that I suppose is for people interested in reviewing the copies of used books, with good titles and in very good condition, which are on a table located on the sidewalk. It is worth a visit to take a look at them.

Apenas abrí la puerta fue recibida por Laura y el perrito librero Ideafix (en homenaje a otro perro de la literatura el de OBELIX, de las aventuras de Asterix) . Hacia la izquierda un mural con una Alicia, del país de las maravillas, perdida en sus lecturas decora una de las paredes y le da un toque especial al lugar. Laura me comentó que junto con el artista Joel Lescano https://www.instagram.com/joellescano/ buscaron diferentes dibujos hasta dar con el adecuado y puedo asegurarte que fue la elección correcta.

As soon as I opened the door I was welcomed by Laura and the little dog Ideafix (in homage to another literary dog, OBELIX, from the adventures of Asterix). To the left, a mural with Alice, from Wonderland, lost in her reading, decorates one of the walls and gives a special touch to the place. Laura told me that together with the artist Joel Lescano https://www.instagram.com/joellescano/ they looked for different drawings until they found the right one and I can assure you that it was the right choice.

Leeme Mucho nació del sueño de Laura de encontrar un espacio para desarrollar los talleres de escritura y lectura que durante diez años había impartido en diferentes librerías.

Hasta que en un momento dio el gran salto, pensó en un lugar propio en uno de los barrios que había comenzado a expandirse y luego de hacer un trabajo enorme de reacomodamiento del local, en mayo del 2022 Leeme Mucho abrió sus puertas.

Leeme Mucho was the result of Laura’s dream of finding a space to develop the writing and reading workshops that she had been teaching for ten years in different bookstores.

At one point he took the big step, she thought of a place of his own in one of the neighborhoods that had begun to expand and after doing a huge job of rearranging the store, in May 2022 Leeme Mucho opened its doors.

El lugar es pequeño y muy acogedor, y me produjo la misma sensación que tengo cuando visito casas pequeñas que se expanden gracias al buen trabajo de sus anfitriones ya que nunca falta espacio🧡

Hay libros dispuestos en estantes y sobre mesas, una de ellas fue la máquina de coser de su abuela. Veo y pregunto sobre escultura de un Martin Fierro lector tallado en madera; Laura me cuenta que fue el regalo de una clienta que se sintió acompañada por las recomendaciones y los cafés que tomó en Leeme Mucho mientras atravesaba un momento personal difícil. 

Estas son las cosas que suceden en estos lugares donde el tiempo pareciera detenerse, donde los libros nos acercan y nos contienen y donde  podemos tener una buena charla con la persona que atiende el lugar en este caso su dueña.

The venue is small and very cozy, and it gave me the same feeling I get when I visit small houses that expand thanks to the good work of their hosts as there is never a lack of space🧡

There are books arranged on shelves and tables, one of them was her grandmother’s sewing machine. I seaw and asked about a sculpture of a Martin Fierro reader carved in wood; Laura told me that it was a gift from a client who felt accompanied by the recommendations and coffees she had at Leeme Mucho while she was going through a difficult personal moment.

These are the things that happen in these places where time seems to slow down, where books bring us closer and contain us and where we can have a good chat with the person who takes care of the place, in this case its owner.

I asked Laura about the activities and these were her words: «In 2023 we had several editions of literature workshops on Aurora Venturini, Vivian Gornick, Joyce Carol Oates. Also tarot on beautiful Saturday afternoons with dear Fedra https://www.instagram.com/fedrasp/ , we recited poetry, there were puppets and storytelling for children with Mercedes de https://www.instagram.com/mmcediciones/, loving professional of the arts for children, we received authors like Inés Busquets https://www.instagram.com/inesbusquets/ and Esther Cross https://www.instagram.com/esther.cross/ They were daily, daily, spontaneous chats, with clients, neighbors, about authors, readings, literary periods.
