Oblation Papers & Press https://www.instagram.com/oblationpapers/ a unique and fascinating stationery store, is located in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District founded in 1989.

I discovered this store by chance (although I know that coincidences do not exist 🙂 ) following the account of Traveller’s Company https://www.instagram.com/travelers_company/ who I kwew through the recommendations about stationery in general and the Japanese in particular by Anikko Villalba https://www.instagram.com/anikovillalba/. And I found out that Traveller’s Company would visit Oblation with their stamps between August and September 2023: it was love at first sight and from that moment on, every time they hold an event or I have the opportunity, I visit Oblation & Press that is a dream for those who love paper.

Oblation Papers & Press https://www.instagram.com/oblationpapers/ es una papelería única y fascinante, ubicada en el corazón del Pearl District de Portland fundada en 1989.

Descubrí esta tienda por casualidad (aunque se que las casualidades no existen 🙂 ) siguiendo la cuenta de Traveller’s Company https://www.instagram.com/travelers_company/ a quienes conocí a través de las recomendaciones sobre papelerías en general y la japonesa en particular de Anikko Villalba https://www.instagram.com/anikovillalba/. Allí supe que Traveller’s Company visitaría Oblation con sus sellos entre agosto y septiembre del 2023: fue amor a primera vista y a partir de ese momento cada vez que realizan algún evento o tengo la oportunidad me doy una vuelta por Oblation & Press que es un sueño para los que amamos el papel.

At Oblation & Press it is possible to find a wide variety of products such as pens of all styles, inks, cards, notebooks, typewriters and even small typographic presses.

En Oblation & Press es posible encontrar una gran variedad de productos como lapiceras de todos los estilos, tintas, tarjetas, libretas y además máquinas de escribir y hasta pequeñas prensas tipográficas.

It is possible to find Japanese stationery such as Hobonichi notebooks and Traveller’s Company products.

Oblation & Press has a workroom where they use antique presses to print cards for weddings or special occasions, and the main feature is that they make them on handmade paper that they produce themselves. They use traditional techniques to manufacture handmade paper sheets with 100% acid-free cotton fiber from recycled scraps from the garment industry.

Because of my interest in antique presses that started in Buenos Aires with https://www.instagram.com/barriosur.ar/ I was lucky to be invited to the store’s studio, where I was able to see the printing presses and the paper production process in action.

It was a unique experience, like stepping back in time and observing the art and dedication behind each piece they produce and for which they are known around the world. I am very grateful for that opportunity.

Oblation & Press cuenta con un taller donde realizan con prensas antiguas impresiones de tarjetas de bodas o para ocasiones especiales y la característica principal es que las hacen sobre un papel artesanal que ellos producen. Utilizan técnicas tradicionales para fabricar hojas de papel hechas a mano con fibra de algodón 100% libre de ácido procedente de retazos reciclados de la industria textil.

Debido a mi interés por las prensas antiguas que comenzó en Buenos Aires con https://www.instagram.com/barriosur.ar/ tuve la suerte de ser invitada al taller de la tienda, donde pude ver en acción las máquinas de impresión y el proceso de producción del papel.

Fue una experiencia única, como retroceder en el tiempo y observar el arte y la dedicación que hay detrás de cada pieza que producen y por las que son conocidos en gran parte del mundo. Estoy muy agradecida por esa oportunidad.

In June of this year, Oblation & Press organized an urban sketching outing open to all who wanted to participate. That’s how I found myself walking around the neighborhood accompanied by the artist https://www.instagram.com/mariekemertz/ sharing a pleasant moment with her and other urban sketching enthusiasts: enjoying creativity in a group.

En junio de este año, Oblation & Press organizó una salida de dibujo urbano abierta a todos los que quisieran participar. Así fue como me encontré recorriendo el barrio acompañada por la artista https://www.instagram.com/mariekemertz/ compartiendo un momento agradable con ella y otros entusiastas del urban sketching: disfrutando de la creatividad en grupo.
