The Roasted Bookery was founded by Jerry and Erin Jones, former teachers, in July of 2022.  We started as an online store, grew to a pop-up, then a micro brick and mortar, and now a full fledged brick and mortar.

After leaving teaching, Erin and Jerry decided to open a bookstore.  They wanted to bring diverse literature to the community at reasonable prices.  When they were teaching, they found that students were more likely to read books that reflected themselves and their peers.  They wanted to bring this into the community.

We value making sure underserved populations have their voices heard.  Our motto is “The Bookstore Where Representation Matters”.  We want that to hold true.

All our books are carefully curated to be authored by people from BIPOC, Latinx, AAPI, LGBTQIA+, Neurodiverse, and Disabled communities.  We carry books for all ages and in all genres.

We choose based on diversity within authors.  We look at remainders first and are starting to carry certain publishers as well.

We work with local authors on a consignment basis currently.  We ask that they fit into our curation.

We work with several schools in the area.  We also host a variety of free events monthly (storytimes, book clubs, art exhibits, etc).  Our store planned The Greater Cape Fear Book Crawl and look forward to continuing our collaboration with other bookstores in the area.  We have participated in the African American Read in over the past two years as well.

Yes! Bitter by Akwaeke Emeki  and The Future by Naomi Aldermen.  Both of these books stayed with me long after I read them.   Both of them extremely different, but about powerful women and their battles.
