Seattle, Washington

The idea came about a week earlier while chatting with Barnaby. He knew I was interested in seeing a live football game, and he made it happen ❤️. I am from Argentina, I am 60 years old, and it was the only sport I had never gone to see in a stadium, which is why it was so special.

On top of that, we got an extra bonus: Seattle gave us an exceptional day for January. Not only did it not rain, but it was sunny. What more could we ask for? Well, for the Seahawks to win… and that happened too 😉

During the walk to Lumen Field, we passed many people wearing hats, jackets, and T-shirts in the team colors: college navy, action green and wolf grey. We passed several bars set up with screens, food, and drinks for those who weren’t going to the stadium but wanted to watch the game with others.

Lumen Field is also home to the Seattle Mariners baseball team and the Seattle Sounders FC (men’s) and Seattle Reign FC (women’s) soccer teams.

Some of the opening matches of the 2026 World Cup will also take place at this stadium, and beyond sports, it serves as a venue for major shows.

Once inside the stadium and heading towards our seats, we had a beautiful view of Seattle with the Olympic Mountains in the background, which are not always visible due to the weather. We found food and drink stands for all tastes, and once in my seat, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the size of the playing field and the stadium.

Little by little, people took their seats. The Seahawks Blue Thunder appeared, the band that sets the rhythm for every game with their percussion instruments. That day, they had Sean Kinney, drummer for Alice in Chains, as their guest.

Videos of plays from the season were shown on the screens, mixed with images of the city and loud music. The pace is frenetic. They also say it’s the loudest stadium in the United States, and they constantly measure the decibels generated by the crowd’s cheers. It’s part of the show… and it’s fun.

When the teams came out, everything turned into a party: fireworks, each Seahawks player being introduced on the giant screen, the contagious and powerful energy.

Then a large American flag was unfurled. We stood up and Zach Top sang the National Anthem. At the end, we were surprised by two Air Force planes flying over the stadium while fireworks exploded and the crowd applauded.

The match began: four fifteen-minute periods, divided into two halfs, with a halftime show.

There were constant changes of teams between offense and defense depending on the strategy for each play. More timeouts that make the clock stop. It wasn’t easy to understand many of the plays, I’m still not clear on the rules, but I did feel the excitement. I shouted, cheered, and booed the referee 😊 for decisions that, like many others, I felt were unfair. I felt the tension during the most dramatic moments, when the outcome could change, and at the same time I enjoyed it a lot.

There were no down times: something was always happening. Screens showing people in the audience, music, entertainers, coordinated shouting. Cheering was an essential part of the experience, a show within the show.

The game ended Seahawks 31 – Rams 27. There was an awards ceremony, speeches from the coach and some players. People gradually left, happy. For me, it was an unforgettable experience, better than I could have imagined.

The Super Bowl will be played in two weeks, and it will be the fourth time the Seahawks have competed in it (2006, 2014—when they won—and 2015). The final will be against the New England Patriots, but this time I’ll watch it from home or maybe at a bar with other people.

  1. Gracias Laura.
