The sign of the shop located on the corner of Laugavegur and Vegamótastigur, streets impossible to pronounce 🙂 in the heart of the city, announces that there is an old bookstore.
The funny thing was that when I entered Hús Máls & Menningar https://www.instagram.com/husmalsogmenningar/me it took me a few minutes to realize that it was a bookstore.
El cartel del local ubicado en la esquina de Laugavegur y Vegamótastigur, calles imposibles de pronunciar 🙂 en pleno corazón de la ciudad, anuncia que allí se encuentra una antigua librería.
Lo curioso fue que al ingresar a Hús Máls & Menningar https://www.instagram.com/husmalsogmenningar/me llevó algunos minutos darme cuenta de que se trataba de una librería.
It is likely that the dim lighting, despite the huge windows and it being a summer noon, combined with the soft jazz music, a bar full of bottles of all kinds and a stage with a drum set and sound equipment, made me feel that I had entered a bar rather than a bookstore.
However, when I looked around, I found a huge amount of books distributed in different shelves located in the three levels of this bookstore that was founded in 1937.
Es probable que la tenue iluminación, a pesar de los enormes ventanales y de ser un mediodía de verano, combinada con la suave música de jazz, una barra repleta de botellas de todo tipo y un escenario con una batería y equipos de sonido, me hicieran sentir que había entrado a un bar más que a una librería.
Sin embargo al acomodar la vista me encontré con una enorme cantidad de libros distribuidos por diversas estanterías ubicadas en los tres niveles que ocupa esta librería que fue fundada en 1937.
On the mezzanine floor, a large number of tables with worn leather chairs invite you to take a break during the day, enjoy a cup of coffee and browse through the extensive collection of used books. Most of the books are in Icelandic, but it is also possible to find a good selection of titles in English.
En el entrepiso, una gran cantidad de mesas con sillas de tapizado gastado invitan a hacer una pausa durante el día, disfrutar de un café y revisar la extensa colección de libros usados. La mayoría de los ejemplares están en islandés, pero también es posible encontrar una buena selección de títulos en inglés.
This area also has a second bar and a number of musical instruments that are part of the decoration

The bar opened three years ago and also the live music project. The Bookstore Band https://www.instagram.com/thebookstoreband/ band that performs every night in this place full of magic.

The basement is another interesting corner of this place, where entertainment is offered throughout the day. Several tables are set up with a selection of board games to enjoy and pass the time.
El subsuelo es otro rincón interesante de este lugar, donde se ofrece entretenimiento a lo largo del día. Varias mesas están dispuestas con una selección de juegos de mesa para disfrutar y pasar el rato.
