Hoy voy a compartir más paseos con murales y graffiti de otros barrios de la ciudad. La gran diferencia es que esta vez el paseo fue con amigos. Bryan y Jim, estuvieron de visita por Argentina, contrataron un tour por La Boca y Barracas y nos invitaron a hacerlo con ellos 🙂 . Así que fue una experiencia diferente y divertida, en barrios que son turísticos pero por cuestiones de distancia no visito demasiado.

Today I’m going to share more walks with murals and graffiti from other neighborhoods of the city. The big difference is that this time the tour was with friends. Bryan and Jim, who were visiting Argentina, booked a tour of La Boca and Barracas and invited us to do it with them 🙂 . So it was a different and fun experience, in neighborhoods that are touristy but for distance reasons I don’t visit too much.

El tour comenzaba en La Boca y como llegamos antes, Barnaby y yo recorrimos un poco el barrio antes de empezar.

The tour started in La Boca and since we arrived early, Barnaby and I walked around the neighborhood a bit before we started.

Si lees esto y no sos de Argentina o Latinoamérica te cuento que Boca es uno de los clubes de fútbol con más simpatizantes del país; como ellos dicen «la mitad más uno» y es por eso que los colores predominantes del barrio son el azul y amarillo (en la jerga futbolera azul y oro)

Uno de los murales que me llamó la atenci´on, quizás por su relieve y el material con que fue realizado es el dedicado a Benito Quinquela Martín artista argentino que vivió en el La Boca y con su pintura retrató al puerto y sus trabajadores. https://www.buenosaires.gob.ar/museoquinquelamartin/coleccion-digital/obras-de-benito-quinquela-martin

If you read this and you are not from Argentina or Latin America, Boca is one of the soccer clubs with the most supporters in the country; as they say «half plus one» and that is why the predominant colors of the neighborhood are blue and yellow (in soccer slang blue and gold).

One of the murals that caught my attention, perhaps because of its relief and the material with which it was made, is the one dedicated to Benito Quinquela Martín, an Argentine artist who lived in La Boca and with his painting portrayed the port and its workers https://www.buenosaires.gob.ar/museoquinquelamartin/coleccion-digital/obras-de-benito-quinquela-martin

Me gusta que en estos recorridos siempre aprendo algo nuevo, y buscando información sobre Vicente Walter (1940-2004) autor del mural, me enteré que fue un albañil, muralista y escultor; y que hacía su trabajo con cemento. Un grupo de vecinos @vicentewalterpresente son los encargados de buscar apoyo para que las obras del autor, que están en varios puntos del barrio reciban atención y cuidado ya que los materiales utilizados se deterioran muy rápidamente.

I like that in these tours I always learn something new, and looking for information about Vicente Walter (1940-2004) author of the mural, I learned that he was a bricklayer, muralist and sculptor; and that he did his work with cement. A group of neighbors @vicentewalterpresente are responsible for seeking support so that the works of the author, which are in various parts of the neighborhood receive attention and care because the materials used deteriorate very quickly.

The walk started on foot viewing the murals such as «Hermandad» done by @eversiempre and «Migrante» by @paola_delfin.

Uno de los puntos fuertes para mi en el recorrido fue el mural de «Vivas nos queremos», ya que es una llamada de atención frente a la violencia contra las mujeres, la explotación sexual y el aborto clandestino.

One of the highlights for me on the tour was the mural of «Vivas nos queremos», as it is a call for attention to violence against women, sexual exploitation and clandestine abortion.

Seguimos el recorrido por La Boca y nos encontramos con 4 murales de alguien que admiro y desde hace un tiempo vengo siguiendo en Instagram @ronmuralist . Fue una grata sorpresa encontrar su arte en el paseo.

We continued our tour of La Boca and came across 4 murals by someone I admire and have been following on Instagram @ronmuralist for some time. It was a pleasant surprise to find his art on the walk.

Una parte muy interesante de Barracas es el Pasaje Lanin donde vimos casas pintadas en vivos colores y con una aplicación de pequeños mosaicos en sus paredes. El artista es @marino_santamaria quien empezó haciendo esto con su estudio y al ver el entusiasmo de sus vecinos continuó expandiendo su arte. Son tres cuadras muy coloridas que merecen una visita.

A very interesting part of Barracas is Pasaje Lanin where we saw houses painted in bright colors and with an application of small mosaics on their walls. The artist is @marino_santamaria who started doing this with his studio and seeing the enthusiasm of his neighbors continued to expand his art. They are three very colorful blocks that are worth a visit.

Nuestro recorrido continuó visitando otros murales por Barracas, muchos de los proyectos fueron colaboraciones entre varios artistas.

Our tour continued visiting other murals around Barracas, many of the projects were collaborations between several artists.

El paseo me resultó tan apasionante que continuaré visitando diferentes barrios para seguir descubriendo a estos artistas que le ponen color a la ciudad 🙂

I found the tour so exciting that I will continue visiting different neighborhoods to keep discovering these artists who add color to the city 🙂
