Hi there! My name’s Ilona and I come from a leafy superb in beautiful Sydney, Australia.
My husband and I taught for many years and loved every minute of it. When we finally retired, we were able to spend time doing things we’d never really had enough time to do before. We have been fortunate to have travelled to many countries around the world, to have had amazing adventures and to have met some very special friends.
One of my hobbies is Ceramics. I meet once a week with a great bunch of like-minded ladies, to chat, laugh and even find time to do some ceramics as well! 🙂
Whenever I return from overseas, I come up with an idea for a piece to remind me of our holiday. I hope you enjoy a little taste of my travels via ceramics.

¡Hola! Me llamo Ilona y vengo de la magnífica, frondosa y bellísima Sydney en Australia.
Mi esposo y yo nos dedicamos a la enseñanza durante muchos años y amamos cada minuto mientras lo hicimos. Cuando finalmente nos jubilamos, pudimos hacer cosas para las que antes no habíamos tenido suficiente tiempo. Tuvimos la suerte de haber viajado a muchos países del mundo, de haber tenido aventuras increíbles y además haber conocido a algunos amigos muy especiales.
Uno de mis pasatiempos es la cerámica. Me encuentro una vez a la semana con un magnífico grupo de mujeres de ideas afines, para charlar, reír e incluso encontrar tiempo para hacer cerámica 🙂
Cada vez que regreso del extranjero, se me ocurre una idea para una pieza que me recuerde nuestras vacaciones. Espero que disfrutes un poco de mis viajes a través de la cerámica.

Before we travelled overseas, we spent a great deal of time exploring all over our own beautiful country. One of my favourite places to visit is the Northern Territory, where we met some amazing aboriginal people who shared with us their customs, culture and stories of the Dreamtime. These two pieces – a vase and a plate – contain memories of MY dreaming in those magical places we visited.

Antes de viajar al extranjero, pasamos mucho tiempo explorando nuestro hermoso país. Uno de mis lugares favoritos para visitar fue el Territorio del Norte, donde conocimos a algunas increíbles personas nativas que compartieron con nosotros sus costumbres, cultura e historias del Dreamtime. Estas dos piezas, un jarrón y un plato, contienen recuerdos de MIS sueños en esos lugares mágicos que visitamos

My memories of Japan.
Our very first overseas trip was to Japan. We were chaperoning 65 High School students,  all of whom were members of the City of Sydney Youth Band. They were representing Australia in the celebration of the Sister City connection between Sydney and Nagoya. We all had an amazing time – and I was well and truly bitten by the travel bug!

Mis recuerdos de Japón.
Nuestro primer viaje al extranjero fue a Japón. Estábamos acompañando a 65 estudiantes de secundaria, todos los cuales eran miembros de la Banda Juvenil de la Ciudad de Sydney. Representaban a Australia en la celebración de Sister City conectando las ciudades de Sydney y Nagoya. Todos lo pasamos de maravilla, ¡y realmente me picó el bicho de los viajes!

Our best holiday ever – Africa! We visited Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. We had the most incredible adventures, especially on safari. We met amazing people, saw magnificent animals (love those big cats!) and had a holiday we’ll never forget!

Our memories will last a lifetime!

Nuestras mejores vacaciones: ¡África! Visitamos Kenia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia y Sudáfrica. Tuvimos las aventuras más increíbles, especialmente en un safari. Conocimos gente increíble, vimos animales magníficos (¡me encantan esos grandes felinos!) Y ¡pasamos unas vacaciones que nunca olvidaremos!

My memories from China. We climbed the Great Wall, rode horses across the icy steppes, drank yak milk inside cosy yurts and rode camels in the Gobi Desert. We travelled to all the usual tourist spots, then by ourselves, we followed the Silk Road as far as we could go. Such an adventure!

Mis recuerdos de China. Escalamos la Gran Muralla, montamos a caballo por las estepas heladas, bebimos leche de yak dentro de acogedoras yurtas y montamos camellos en el desierto de Gobi. También viajamos a todos los lugares turísticos habituales y luego por nuestra cuenta, seguimos la Ruta de la Seda hasta donde pudimos llegar. ¡Qué aventura!

Memories of Italy. Such an amazing country! Visiting the ancient sites of magnificent Rome and the glory of Florence were experiences to be treasured for ever…. and Venice was a city I instantly fell in love with!I just love everything about this beautiful country – the people, the history, the ancient architecture, the food – and the spectacular countryside, especially the rolling hills of Tuscany!

Recuerdos de Italia. ¡Qué país tan asombroso! Visitar los lugares antiguos de la magnífica Roma y la gloria de Florencia fueron experiencias para ser atesoradas para siempre … ¡Y Venecia fue una ciudad de la que me enamoré instantáneamente! Me encanta todo lo relacionado con este hermoso país: la gente, la historia, la arquitectura antigua, la comida y el espectacular paisaje, ¡especialmente las colinas de la Toscana!

We had an absolutely amazing holiday in Morocco a few years ago! Everything about our stay there was amazing – the food, the scenery, the architecture and the warm, friendly, welcoming people! Such great memories!

¡Tuvimos unas vacaciones absolutamente increíbles en Marruecos hace unos años! Todo sobre nuestra estancia allí fue increíble: la comida, el paisaje, la arquitectura y la gente cálida, amable y acogedora. ¡Qué buenos recuerdos!

And this is my tribute to memories of Scotland. My husband is of Scottish heritage and this is his family crest. I surprised Alan with this heritage plate on his 70th birthday. He was delighted!

Well, there you are – a little trip around the world, filled with very happy memories of my wonderful overseas adventures. In these strange times of limited travel, I hope that my little ‘journey’ has helped you see the world.

Y este es mi homenaje a los recuerdos de Escocia. Mi esposo es de ascendencia escocesa y este es el escudo de su familia. Sorprendí a Alan con esta placa de herencia cuando cumplió 70 años. ¡Quedó encantado!

Bueno, hasta aquí un pequeño viaje alrededor del mundo, lleno de recuerdos muy felices de mis maravillosas aventuras en el extranjero. Espero que mi pequeño «viaje» les haya ayudado a ver el mundo en estos tiempos extraños de viajes limitados.
