Mi nombre es Fanny, vivo en Portland, Oregon y creo que fuí una artista toda mi vida. Aprendí a coser, tejer y bordar a los 12 años y también a dibujar, pero sobre todo a colorear en la escuela.  Dar color a las cosas es algo que disfruto muchísimo hasta el día de hoy. Como mi educación fue en una escuela católica mis dibujos fueron en su mayoría religiosos y hasta gané un concurso pintando una virgen 🙂 !!

My name is Fanny, I live in Portland, Oregon and I think I was an artist all my life. I learned to sew, knit and embroider at the age of 12 and also to draw, but especially to color at school. Adding color to things is something that I really enjoy to this day. As my education was in a catholic school my drawings were mostly religious and I even won a contest painting a virgin 🙂 !!

Cuando me hice más grande, mi papá dijo que había que buscar una carrera  «para poder comer» y es así que recibí mi título de Licenciada en Bioanálisis y pasé muchos años de e mi vida trabajando en ello. Algo que no fue un peso sino que también disfruté mucho. Sin embargo el bichito del arte estaba conmigo y buscando a forma de salir 🙂 entonces comencé clases de Scrapbooking cuando nació mi nieto hace 23 años. En esa época yo vivía en la costa Este del país, en Tennessee. Después de unos años me mudé a la costa Oeste, a California.

When I got older, my dad said that I had to look for a career «to be able to eat» and that is how I received my Master’s degree in Bioanalysis and spent many years of my life working on this field. Something that was not hard, because I also enjoyed it a lot. However, the art bug was with me and looking for a way out 🙂 So I started Scrapbooking classes when my grandson was born 23 years ago. At that time I was living on the East coast of the country, in Tennessee. After a few years I moved to the West Coast, to California.

Durante ese tiempo hice cosas muy divertidas como los llamados «Craft Retreats» que traducido me parece que son «Retiros de Manualidades». Estos eran unos seminarios intensivos (4 días) donde nos reuníamos un grupo de señoras interesadas en aprender diferentes técnicas artísticas. Había tantos materiales! Ahí empecé a comprar muchas cosas que fuí guardando y que aún conservo. También iba con mi hija a las ferias de manualidades donde aprendimos un sinnúmero de cosas. Todo esto lo hacía entre trabajar, mantener una casa, criar a mi nieto y cuidar de los perritos y otros animalitos que encontraban el camino a nuestra casa.

Cuando me jubilé y tuve que cuidar a mi mamá que estaba enferma, me reencontré con esos materiales (algunas pinturas por falta de uso hasta se habían secado 🙂 ) pero desde ese momento nunca más deje de hacer cosas.

During that time, I went to many «Craft Retreats». These were intensive workshops (4 days) where we met a group of ladies interested in learning different techniques. There were so many materials! During that time I began to purchase many things that I kept and that I still have. I also went with my daughter to craft fairs where we learned countless things. All this was done between working, maintaining a house, raising my grandson and taking care of the puppies and other animals that found their way to our house.

When I retired and had to take care of my mother who was ill, I found myself again with those materials (some paints had even dried up due to lack of use 🙂 ) but from that moment on I never stopped doing things.

Desde que nació mi primer nieto, cada vez que nacía un bebé en la familia me encargaban un scrapbook del primer año. Así empezó una tradición familiar de hacer scrapbook para los nacimientos, bodas y eventos relacionados con mi familia.

Luego me animé a hacer tarjetas para cualquier ocasión. Eso se convirtió en mi mayor hobby. Hoy soy recordada en la familia por no olvidarme de un cumpleaños, aniversario, graduación, Navidad, Pascua, San Valentín y en ocasiones tristes la tarjeta de pésame. Con el tiempo me asocié a algunos clubes donde cada mes me mandaban una cajita llena de cosas como estampas, troqueles, papeles preciosos y otras cosas. Eso me ayudó con la creatividad.

Since my first grandson was born, every time a baby was born in the family I was commissioned for a first year scrapbook. That started a family tradition of making scrapbooks for births, weddings and events related to my family.

Then I decided to make cards for any occasion. That became my biggest hobby. Today I am remembered in the family for not forgetting a birthday, anniversary, graduation, Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day and on sad occasions sympathy cards. Over time I joined some clubs where every month they sent me a box full of things like stamps, dies, beautiful papers and other things. That helped with my creativity.

En el 2015, con mi esposo nos mudamos al PNW. Ahí comencé con un nuevo hobby que fue reciclar muebles y refaccionar ambientes. Ahí conocí a mi querida amiga Laura, tuvimos unas muy alegres sesiones de arte cuando éramos vecinas. En enero del 2020, justo antes de que el mundo se fuera a pique con la pandemia, nos mudamos para Portland. Durante la cuarentena como estábamos aislados hasta pinté mi casa!! 🙂

In 2015, my husband and I moved to the PNW. There I started with a new hobby which was recycling furniture and renovating rooms. There I met my dear friend Laura, we had some very happy art sessions when we were neighbors. In January 2020, just before the world went upside down in the pandemic, we moved to Portland. During the quarantine, as we were isolated, I even painted my house, and remodeled some areas! 🙂

Hoy tengo en mi casa un estudio artístico soñado con una vista fenomenal, donde pinto, coso y también le doy nueva utilidad y vida a diversos objetos como macetas y botellas vacías… nada se tira todo se transforma 😉 Hasta tengo un lugar donde invito a mis amigas para compartir momentos artísticos.

Today I have in my house an dreamy art studio with a phenomenal view, where I paint, sew and also give new use and life to various objects such as pots and empty bottles … nothing is thrown away, everything is transformed 😉 I even have a place where I invite my friends to share artistic moments.

Lo mío es un hobby, me encanta enseñar y transmitir todo lo que aprendo, porque siempre estoy en constante formación. Aquí estamos con mi «alumna Laura» es más lo que nos reímos que lo que trabajamos, sin embargo luego de un poco de disciplina y un poco menos de risas hicimos estos proyectos 🙂

Mine is a hobby, I love teaching and sharing everything I learn, because I am always in constant training. Here we are with my «student Laura» it is more what we laugh than what we work, however after a little discipline and a little less laughter we did these projects 🙂

También hace un año y medio compartí una actividad de pinturas al alcohol con sus hijas Sofía y Paula.

Also a year and a half ago I shared an alcohol painting activity with her daughters Sofía and Paula.

Cuando estoy en mi lugar de trabajo me transformo, puedo pasar horas totalmente enfocada en el proyecto que estoy realizando en el momento. Amo lo que hago y me da mucha satisfacción ver mis obras terminadas.

When I am in my studio I transform myself, I can spend hours totally focused on the project that I am doing at the moment. I love what I do and it gives me great satisfaction to see my finished work.
