Si hay algo bello en el Pacific North West es el verano, no tan caluroso (aunque este año durante una semana batimos el record de temperatura) seco (una grandiosa novedad para alguien de Buenos Aires) y al menos donde vivimos: libre de mosquitos. ¿Qué más se puede pedir? Es una pregunta retórica no vale decir nada sobre el gris y la lluvia durante el invierno 😉

Este verano decidimos hacer viajes de pocos días y nos propusimos conocer nuevos lugares por el estado de Washington . Agregando cada vez que pudimos la costa de Oregon: Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Arch Cape; que son lugares que amamos profundamente.

If there is something beautiful in the Pacific North West it is summer, not so hot (although this year we beat the temperature record for a week) dry (a great news for someone from Buenos Aires) and at least where we live: free of mosquitoes. What more could you want? It is a rhetorical question, it is not worth saying anything about the grey and the rain during the winter 😉

This summer we took shorts trips, just few days and we decided to see new places in the state of Washington. Adding whenever we could the Oregon coast: Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Arch Cape; which are places we love deeply.

Las playas, por ser tan amplias, siempre son una invitación a caminarlas. Meterse al agua es un imposible (aunque siempre hay valientes) porque el agua es muy fría; pero hay otras actividades para hacer. Nosotros buscamos las horas de baja mar y fuimos a explorar las piletas que se forman para curiosear un poco la vida bajo el agua que aparece, al menos por unas horas. No dejo de maravillarme cada vez que lo hacemos.

The beaches, being so wide, are always an invitation to walk them. Getting into the water is impossible (although there are always brave ones) because the water is very cold; but there are other activities to do. We checked the tides and we went to explore the pools that are formed to browse a little the underwater life that appears, at least for a few hours. I can’t stop feeling stunned every time we do it.

Otra cosa para agregar al equipaje es un barrilete (cometa) porque es una zona muy ventosa y rápidamente toman vuelo sin demasiado esfuerzo. También si el clima lo permite, hacer un fuego mientras se ve la puesta del sol puede ser una actividad tanto romántica como de contemplaci´on de la naturaleza y su belleza 😉

Another thing to add to the luggage is a kite because it is a very windy area and they quickly take flight without too much effort. Also if the weather allows it, making a fire while watching the sunset can be both a romantic activity and a contemplation of nature and its beauty 😉

Visitamos también el noreste del estado de Washington, la zona de Cle Elum donde paramos en un lugar precioso, con una hermosa vista, spa y confort. Por una extraña razón que no sabría explicar, mis botas de caminata siempre se cuelan en mi equipaje y terminamos en actividades de caminatas, que son estimulantes aunque en este caso no demasiado relajantes. De cualquier manera use una playlist de Pandora con música de lo más variada para alejar a quien pudiera acercarse, incluso a Barnaby que me dio la sensación que hubiera preferido la aparición de un oso antes que escuchar la música que sonaba en mi celular 🙂

We also visited the northeast of the state of Washington, the area of Cle Elum where we stopped in a beautiful place, with a beautiful view, spa and comfort. For a strange reason that I cannot explain, my hiking boots always slip into my luggage and we end up in hiking activities, which are stimulating but not relaxing in this case. Either way, I used a Pandora playlist with the most varied music to ward off anyone who might come near, even Barnaby, who gave me the feeling that he would have preferred the appearance of a bear rather than listening to the music that was playing on my cell phone 🙂

A una hora de distancia visitamos Leavenworth una ciudad en la que parece que estás en Alemania y que es muy famosa en navidad. Aunque fuimos en pleno verano, hay tiendas dedicadas a la venta de productos exclusivamente navideños. Ver las maquetas de diferentes tipo de navidades como Harry Potter, la del Polo Norte, una con motivo de Halloween, entre otras, hacen que sea visita muy divertida.

Y si además una se encuentra con unas estatuas de una abuelita contando un cuento… la alegría es completa y si no mira la foto del inicio 🙂

An hour away we visited Leavenworth, a city that seems to be in Germany and is very famous at Christmas. Although we went in the middle of summer, there are stores dedicated to the sale of exclusively Christmas products. Seeing the models of different types of Christmas such as Harry Potter, the one at the North Pole or Halloween, among others, make it a very fun visit.

And if you also come across some statues of a grandmother telling a story… the joy is complete and if you don’t believe me, look at the photo at the beginning 🙂

Otro nuevo lugar que exploramos fueron las islas Lopez y Orcas que forman parte de la San Juan Island al norte de Washington compartiendo mar con Canadá.

Cruzar en ferry, caminar por lugares preciosos, disfrutar de tiendas con hermosas cerámicas , hacer caminatas relajadas y comer rico; hicieron que pensemos en volver en algún otro momento… especialmente a Orcas 😉

Another new place that we explored were the Lopez and Orcas Islands that are part of the San Juan Island north of Washington sharing the sea with Canada.

Taking a ferry, walk through beautiful places, enjoy shops with beautiful ceramics, take relaxed walks and eat delicious; made us think of going back some other time … especially Orcas 😉

Hicimos recorridos durante el día cerca de casa: campos de lavanda, conocimos la capital del estado que es Olympia, fuimos a bodegas, al rosedal en Portland, tomamos caminatas sin peligro de osos por nuestro amado Lacamas Creek y también caminamos por Portland y Vancouver. Es muy agradable vivir tan cerca de la naturaleza y de lo urbano.

We took day tours close to home: lavender fields, we visited the state capital Olympia, we went to wineries, the rose garden in Portland, we took walks bears free 🙂 through our beloved Lacamas Creek and we also walked through Portland and Vancouver. It is very nice to live between nature and the urban.

Con todo este material fotográfico, tuve ganas de inventar un nuevo Panda Project llamado Summer in PNW con tarjetas que llegarán a sus manos con fotos de estos diferentes viajes. Y este es un proyecto especial porque a fin de septiembre, esta loca idea de intercambiar fotos cumple un año.

Realmente estos juegos se transformaron en algo que me viene dando muchísima alegría porque me mantiene en contacto con mis amigas y amigos de varias partes del mundo y además sé que los hago sonreír con estas locuras. Brindo por eso y por seguir encontrando pandas por donde quiera que vaya.

With all this photographic material, I invented a new Panda Project called Summer in PNW with cards that will come to your hands with photos of these different trips. And this is a special project because at the end of September, this crazy idea of exchanging photos turns one year old.

These games really became something that has given me a lot of joy because it keeps me in touch with my friends from various parts of the world and I also know that I make them smile with these crazy things. I toast to that and to keep finding pandas wherever I go.
