En febrero de este año estuve paseando por Cannon Beach en Oregon, uno de esos lugares en la costa oeste de Estados Unidos donde cargo las pilas de buena energía; no solo porque es un bello si no que además la gente está más dispuesta a conversar. Evidentemente todos estamos en la misma sintonía 😉

Cuando hablo inglés tengo un acento muy particular que nunca pasa inadvertido, sin embargo lo interesante fue que cuando cruzamos nuestras primeras palabras con Silvina, rápidamente se dio cuenta que era de Argentina; su frase fue: «Hablás como mi mamá» Ella también en español habla como argentina 😉

Entre risas nos pusimos a conversar y me contó que es artista y cuando me envió las fotos de su trabajo quedé maravillada. Agradezco mucho estar atenta a estas sincronías, sin ellas no podría haber conocido a gente tan talentosa.

In February of this year I was walking around Cannon Beach in Oregon, one of those places on the west coast of the United States where I charge my batteries with good energy; not only because it is beautiful but also because people are more willing to talk. Evidently we are all on the same wavelength 😉

When I speak English I have a very particular accent that never goes unnoticed, however the interesting thing was that when we crossed our first words with Silvina, she quickly realized that I was from Argentina; her phrase was: «You speak like my mom» She also in Spanish speaks like an Argentinean 😉

Laughing, we got to talking and she told me that she is an artist and when she sent me the photos of her work I was amazed. I am very grateful to be aware of these synchronicities, without them I would not have been able to meet such talented people.

My name is Silvina Day. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  I grew up in Los Angeles where I studied fine art at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art. For almost five years now I have enjoyed living in the Capital of Oregon where I’m surrounded by pristine forests and waterways. 

Me llamo Silvina Day. Nací en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Crecí en Los Ángeles donde estudié bellas artes en la Academia de Arte Figurativo de Los Ángeles. Desde hace casi cinco años disfruto de vivir en la capital de Oregon, donde estoy rodeada de bosques y cursos de aguas clarísimas.

Since moving to the Pacific North West the primary focus of my work has been water. I’m fascinated by the constantly moving and reflective surface yet transparent quality of this element, which is what makes it the most challenging subject I’ve painted so far. Also my favorite subject right now because when I’m at the sea, river or lake I feel energized and calm all at once. 

Desde que me mudé al noroeste del Pacífico, mi trabajo se ha centrado principalmente en el agua. Me fascina el constante movimiento y la superficie reflectante y a la vez transparente de este elemento, que es lo que hace que sea el tema más desafiante que he pintado hasta ahora. También es mi tema favorito ahora mismo, porque cuando estoy en el mar, el río o el lago me siento con energía y en calma a la vez.

Aside from the representational aspect of my paintings, I want the viewer to notice what delights me about my medium. Oil paint can be expressive in texture and is lusciously pigmented. One of my goals is to make you notice the painter’s mark, my “fingerprint” so to speak. I want my paintings to look like paint.  Color and texture, I revel in this aspect of my work. Painting on a smooth surface, usually wood, gives me greater freedom of expression.

Aparte del aspecto representativo de mis cuadros, quiero que el espectador se fije en lo que me maravilla de mi medio. La pintura al óleo tiene una textura expresiva y una pigmentación exquisita. Uno de mis objetivos es que se note la marca del pintor, mi «huella digital» por así decirlo. Quiero que mis cuadros parezcan pintura. El color y la textura, me deleitan en este aspecto de mi trabajo. Pintar sobre una superficie lisa, normalmente madera, me da mayor libertad de expresión.

Before I started painting I was product director for a skin care and cosmetics company in Los Angeles. I enjoyed helping create the products and choosing the color line. I have always had my hand in the aesthetics of beauty in one field or another, but ultimately I knew I could’t thrive in an office environment. I need to explore the forest, mountain and sea. Then it is my work to convey how awesome God’s creation looks to me. I believe creation is meant for us to take pleasure in and to be responsible stewards of this gift.

I’m open to collaborating with other artists or businesses, I often accept commissions. 

Antes de empezar a pintar, fui directora de producto en una empresa de cuidados de la piel y cosméticos en Los Ángeles. Disfrutaba ayudando a crear los productos y eligiendo la paleta de colores. Siempre me he dedicado a la estética de la belleza en uno u otro campo, pero al final supe que no podía prosperar en un entorno de oficina. Necesito explorar el bosque, la montaña y el mar. Entonces mi trabajo es transmitir lo impresionante que me parece la creación de Dios. Creo que la creación está hecha para que nos deleitemos en ella y seamos administradores responsables de este regalo.
